Adeliade
Just Confirmed ( no unconfirmed rumors here ) Panzer is going to the Clipsal. Now i know most of you couldn't care less, but this is a big step for me . I am actually going to a V8 meeting. I think this will be a good one to go to, as the Konica cars will be there too. I am quite excited about the whole thing. It will also be good to go back as i havent been there since the last GP. Now i'll get to see what you people all rave about. Not sure if i'm a Holden or Ford fan yet, will make up my mind on the weekend. Who else is going. Cheers.

Just make sure you go to Adelaide as opposed to Adeliade like your post.
Hope you enjoy the meeting. |

Yep, I'll be there. My first time. I got seating in the sweeper grandstand.
Has anybody here sat there before?? Is it as good as everyone makes out?? Also to people who are from Adelaide. What is the best public transport to get to the track?? I'll be staying at a house in South Brighton. Do buses go from Marion shops straight to the track?? Or will I have to get off at the city and catch another bus to the track?? Thanks. BJ |

Just walk BJ. You'll be surprised how close the circuit is!
And have a cold ale at the Stag on the way... |

Well not from Canberra that's for sure!!!!!!
From the main bus station it's probably only 15 minutes down Hindley Street/Rundle Mall to the gates at the northern end of the circuit. A bit further to get around to the sweeper though. But still walkable. |

If it is anything like the Melbourne GP walking will most certainly be the quickest transport. 1 hour wait for a taxi that still never showed, what a joke!

BJAY, check the TransAdelaide website at www.transadelaide.com.au or www.adelaidemetro.com.au to download timetables and maps. They also have a Clipsal 500 guide for getting around the city. There is also a free shuttle bus that is circulating around the city, which can reduce the amount of walking you need to do. Whilst it may only take 15-20 min to cross Adelaide CBD on foot, you'll spend another 30min in the race grounds standing in queues waiting to cross the track.

BJAY,
If you are in South Brighton, you can catch the train from Brighton Station - non stop to City Or get to Marion Shops and catch bus 243 246 0r 247 into City, getting off in Wakefield Street at the Fire station then 10 minutes walk east Mike |

I am sitting at the Chicane Inside Grandstand whatever that means, so hopefully it is good for my first.

Evomike,
This section is very good spot and if "inside" the circuit, then you have a big range of facilities immediately behind the grandstand - the ticket holders are 'free" to move into and out of the "general" area where the support padocks are. I'm seated on the "outside" of the pit straight, almost adjacent to the start/finish line - in the Barry Sheene Stand - again, we are free to move into the "inside" of the circuit and the paddocks. mike |

Cheers Mike, as a first time to Adelaide not just Clipsal it's a bit daunting trying to work everything out and the detail on the ticket doesn't really tell you where the grandstand is as the descriptions on the map don't really match whats on the ticket.

They have increased the height of the fencing this year in accordance with FIA rules so there might be a few upset punters who cannot see as much as before .

Just had an early morning cruise through Bartels/Dequetteville Corner (Turn 8) and it appears that they have brought the inner wall in about 1-2 metre at the apex (away from the racing line) - possibly to improve visibilty "around" the corner.
IIRC, last year the inner wall was immediately adjacent to the street kerbing so the real hot shots could graze the inner wall. Then again, they may not have finished the corner because it remains "open" until Tuesday 16 March or thereabouts. Mike Last edited by mmciau; 13 Mar 2004 at 22:33. |

Adelaide Turn 8 - Now potentially dangerous
Related to my earlier post re Turn 8 at Adelaide, I checked again this afternoon and I believe the organisers have made Turn 8 possibly, even potentially more dangerous than it has been at past Clipsal 500 meetings.
They have moved the inner concrete wall and catch fence back the 1-2 metres as I said earlier, but in line with the edge of the inner kerb (and for the length of the corner), they have placed ARMCO railing (at approx 600-1000 mm above the kerb height). I believe that if a car grazes the railing in this region and a tyre "picks up" during contact, I believe a car will "launch" into the air and "bounce back" into the traffic. For an open-wheeler, I would not like to contemplate an outcome. The solution to this corner is to "narrow" the entry and offer a huge amount of "run off" area on the eastern side of the track with tyre barriers wrapped in metre high "conveyor belt" - just like Turn 4 (CBC Corner).
