And the real winner is...
Channel 10!!
Their fantastic SMS trivia do-dad appartently saw a million SMSs sent throughout the weekend. At 55c a pop, that adds up to a bloody lot of dollars! But the champion bit of it all was that they gave out a prize of $5000. Bloody lot of dollar minus five grand equals channel 10 as the big winner of the weekend! Kudos to all involved, it was a great team effort.... BTW- who entered it, and what the freckle was it? |

Ch 10 don't get the whole 55c - 20 or 25c goes to your phone company (depending on who you are with).
But I agree - which is why I refuse to enter any competition like this that forces a charge on you (read the fine print Woods said - sure, if you have a 500 cm screen to be able to view it on...) Last edited by RaceTime; 14 Oct 2003 at 23:54. |

Hey I did one of those things recently where you SMS your details to somewhere or other and won first prize... which was a LOT more than the 55c! Which work paid for anyway

I won't enter them as I don't want to get spammed on my sms.
And I have a wonderful program from Telstra for my ADSL that lets me send SMS's from my computer. It's a lot easier to type on, that's for sure. |

yeah i entered , it was fun answering the questions and most were fairly simple if you knew a bit about the sport.
you had 2 minutes to send your answer which was fine but after a while it became a joke because the lines clogged up and they didnt recieve your answer for 20 - 30 mins as everyone who SMS's knows what this is like, so the reply came back "sorry dude thought you had chickened out you are we didnt get your answer in time and disqualified you" I didnt bother after that. |

I thinx he may have some recourse about that one,
and I thinx so might Marcos; as I understand it he's a little cranky with people getting it wrong |

My phone was too busy texting people at the track and around the country to enter that comp.... I wasted nearly 50 bucks in the process, but hey it was worth it!
Did anyone get the final scores? Did the Holden fans manage to double that of Ford? |

Last time the screens 'round the track showed it, it was getting pretty bloody close.
I know certain Ford boffins were cringing at the site of it |

I entered 3 times, sorry make that tried to enter 3 times!
I SMS'd the word 'play' to the number and nothing happened. I bet though the 55c or whatever a call WILL show up on my next bill. The best rort was the 'Uplate Big Brother' quiz. 55c cents to enter even if you didn't get through! These comps are a great money spinner for the TV production companies. |

I was too busy watching a motor race to bother with teenager-targeted periphery distractions.
How could anyone look away from the screen for a second? Oh, yeah the ad breaks... |

What ad breaks? Only 221 adverts shown.
OPh - and only 131 laps of the race as well |

Well you know what they say, the TV show is only there to separate the ads.
I still like that suggestion about keeping the TV feed going in the corner of the screen with ad in the rest of it. |

The Sydney Daily Telegraph has a "Cars Guide" supplement, and on p6 of that part of the paper, written by Ray Kershler, in the top RH corner is written:
"TV ADS COVER 23 LAPS * So you watched the Bob Jane T Marts Bathurst 1000 on Channel 10. Well, most of it. The website www.racetime.com.au did a bit of maths and worked out they didnt watch as much of the race as they thought. The website added up the number of ads and the amount of time Channel 10 gave over to ads. Overall there were seven periods where the ad break was four minutes or longer. All in all viewers missed 23 laps as the network showed 221 ads." So RaceTime is getting more and more famous by the minute.... |

- Crazy - I got the basic stats from an email last Monday after the info was posted here. All I did for the RaceNews Digest was to summarise it and split the data up a little more.
Tony will NOT be happy over this |

Here's hoping it increases traffic to your site RT and you can make it commercially viable in its own right
