McLean SACKED???
I head some bloke talking on the phone at the airport on Friday and he said that Cameron Mclean had been sacked and that some other driver had taken his place as a fill in for PI.
Does any one know anything about this? |

Well he's definatly not driving the car this weekend for whatever reason. Some bloke named Alistair Bye is racing the the #27 machine.

Hi All
Cameron McLean is racing in the NZV8's this summer, and they are racing this weekend at Ruapuna here in NZ - I think that might be the reason he isn't at PI (along with Luke Youlden and Shannon O'Brien). As for how the aussies are going - Luke Youlden qualified fastest by .05 of a second, won the first race, but tapped the lead car during the race causing a bit of a pile up and was disqualified and docked 10 championship points. He started at the back for race 2 and finished 12th. McLean qualified 12th, 22nd Race 1, 21st Race 2 O'Brien qualified 16th, 9th Race 1, 14th Race 2 |

If he has been sacked then company decisions happen like that. He wasn''t going to win the cc so maybe the UNZUD offer was better. |

I think that you will find Cameron is a paid driver in the Carrera Cup and the NZ V8 Series. He will most likely be back in a 997 next year with Sherrin Hire it would seem.
Cameron is a very deserving and capable driver. The way he feeds data and info back to his engineers and mechanics would leave many full-time drivers in his wake. |

A curious topic... it was certainly written in the motorsport press that Mr McLean was away chasing the NZ title, while the original Sherrin Hire road rally driver Mr Bye got the seat for the weekend.
Mr Bye had driven (with Mr Sherrin codriving) in a Porsche GT3 that has been advertised for sale recently... makes sense that he is first in line for this seat. Meantime, Sherrin Hire Racing has 2 997's on the way, and 2 franchise licence slots for the Carrera Cup series in 2006... |

I was suprised Cam did not do better in the GT3, he is far more experienced than alot of the younger drivers and given that the cars are all the same should have won a few more races one would think.
"Cameron is a very deserving and capable driver. The way he feeds data and info back to his engineers and mechanics would leave many full-time drivers in his wake." In a control class one would think he would shine wouldnt one, by the time he went to Nz he was nowhere in the points, even old fitgerald was in front of him, and Gurr and Dyke consistantly beat him too. |

Actually it would be funny now that Mr Canto has signed his GRM contract if Mr Briggs escapes from the marina long enough to look for his cut
