I have no solid knowledge of this but I thought the NAscar's did a fair bit of speed down there only to find that the braking point was around about 20 meteres down from Forest Elbow.

Yeah the NASCAR's did a race at the 1996 ATCC round.
Seton clocked over 300kph in qualifying in 1996. They may top that this year with the new diff ratio?? |

I'm pretty sure that a Ferrari P3 Le Mans type sports car did over 340kph down the straight at Bathurst in the pre Chase days in the seventies. I'm also sure that the Matich SR4 with quad cam Repco V8 would have been capable of going faster but maybe it was never measured or Matich never pushed it that hard.

Stubber didn't get there... he was running a BIG diff to push it there, but in the end gave it away and fitted something more sensible.
Bill Brown in the Scuderia Veloce Ferrari 330P4 (I think that's right) was generally acclaimed as the fastest at 300-odd klicks on the old straight, although I thought that the sports sedans may have shaded it once or twice. I believe they credited Seto with 301km/h, although generally they've topped out at 296-odd since. Was 1996 the year that Skippy set a long-jump record at the Chase with that car? Made for a couple of spectacular photos! |

In the pre-chase days, guys like Russell Stenhouse used to do insane speeds down Conrod during the Flying 1/5th.
The Flying 5th started up near the Bathurst Light Car Club rooms, and was a 1km windup, 200m of timed section, and jump on the brakes, throw out the anchors, release the parachutes to pull the cars up before Murrays Corner... Any old BLCC members who post here remember what speed he did in about 1983 or 84 - I would have only been about 9 or 10, but I somehow remember a speed of around 300kmh in a road-registered Torana? |

I was there in 1996 and seto was credited with 301kmh.
But I would imagine there would have to be other classes faster than the v8s. |

I don't know how Seto could have gone any faster than 296 with a standard diff and a 7500rpm rev limit. The only variablwe is tyres (pre control tyres), if they had slightly higher sidewalls he may have got a few more kph but 308kph would require 18-inch wheels.

Dogde Viper (possibly with Garry Waldon driving) 310 kmh as the fastest clocked by radar.

Seto was 304k's, but with the rev limits and control diffs it's mechanically impossible to hit those speeds in a curent Supercar...

You don't get the grip required for a good run out of Forrest's Elbow, and accordingly drop speed.

Seton did the speed back when there was a choice of several different diff ratios.
