Yeah, I read that yesterday. It would be great for Champ Car racing to have another great American driver in the series. I think he will immediately be a contender for podiums and even race wins, similar to Sebastien Bourdais last year.

If, like in Atlantic, he has the best car, then I'm sure he will be contending immediately. If, like Ryan Hunter-Reay he has lesser equipment, then he'll probably be mid-pack.

Good point Jay. I can't see RuSPORT knowing how to set up a Champ Car right away. As good as they might be, it will take them a little while to get it figured out. Somebody like Bourdias stepped in with a team that knew exactly how to set up the car and only had to fine tune it to his style. (Not putting down Bourdias, he is an exceptional driver, I'm just using him as an example.)

Gotta agree with Tailwind. It would surprise me to see AJ as a frontrunner in the near future, unless RuSport hire some experienced personnel (Barry Green is still out there....), or run in conjunction with an existing team.

As long as the expectations aren't set too high, Ryan and AJ could easily be the future of the series, and very important to it gaining US support.

Yes, but keep in mind, AJ spent one year in Atlantics and he dominated it. Hunter-Reay didn't dominate in Atlantics(although he was one of the top drivers)and he was with one of the best teams available. Rusport was a brand new team although it did have crew members with lots of previous experience. Still AJ dominated and was clearly the best driver and it was his teams first year in Atlantics. I'm sure Rusport will put together a good team of mechanics and engineers, and I'm fairly sure they will use Lola Chassis's and if so, I think it won't take AJ too long to get up to speed and run at the front of the pack.

AJ WILL be with RuSport. But he won't be up the front. He'll have a year of learning, then he'll start challenging in 2005.
