Personally, I miss the bigger cars of years past. However, I think the coupes and production cars spice up the action better than it has in the past, so if we could just get some big cars in the btcc, i think everyone would be happy.

i miss the proper 'sedan' cars and would like them to return but i dont want no vauxhall omega.the omega looks like something that u buy 4 a pound from the pound shop.i reckon when the real tourers come back(the cars i grew up with),and the btp moves into its own seperate races we will have a championship that is just so amazing that manufacturers will wanna enter cars in both competitions...or is that just a dream.

Why do you need to keep hammering your opinion on this into our heads Vauxhall? What exactly has been wrong with this year's series, that a 4 door car would improve?

Bennett Fan,
I'm with you on this! vauxhall, You have been harping on about this for months. We all know what you think. And so do all those people who have read the identical postings on the 'BTCC Pages' and tocatour.com forums. Give it a rest!!! For the last time: If Vauxhall want to race a Vectra or an Omega, they can. Absolutely nothing is stopping them. Guess what? They don't want to. I guess Vauxhall would rather quit than run with the Vectra or Omega. A manufacturer can run a 4-door saloon. Look at the Lexus IS200 and the MG ZS. |

Ok, im a BIG fan of the BTCC!
i dont want the series to consist of cars like the 147, 307 and Focus! there not tourin cars, there vans! fine in production class but not in touring! bring back the cars of the late 90's! |

Yeah, we could have the dirty old men class consisting of Win Percy, John Cleland, Jeff Allam, The Rat, Randy Mouse, Smoking Jo, Big ole David Leslie, Patrick Watts, Will Hoy, Julian Bailey, Tim Sugden, Steve Soper... and the list goes on! |

I'm a big fan of the BTCC. And as long as there are cars racing, no matter what shape or size. I'll be happy.

The way the BTCC is going, we'll be lucky if there is a series at all next year.
I understand the BBC aren't overly happy with the coverage they have recived. And we all know that the BTCC will live or die on the TV coverage. Last edited by Sodemo; 17 Jul 2001 at 22:20. |

Prefer four doors
The ETCC has decided that four door cars are what they want go with.
This is also what I prefer. Two door touring cars are fine, as long as it does not open the door(no pun intended) to 2+2 sportscars being entered. Which brings up a question, can Mazda run an RX-8 in the ETCC? As it will have four doors and four seats, this crossover sportscar might be able to compete in touring cars even if four door sedans are what is required. Since you can run a four door in BTCC, no manufacturer who is looking to compete in ETCC will be kept from sending the same cars to race in the UK, so I don't think it will effect the health of the BTCC to still allow two door touring cars. Will BTCC still be here next year? With the new ETCC rules being so close many manufacturers will send cars to compete in BTCC as well. On the other hand, with the BTCC not doing so well, the manufacturers and teams might only compete in what looks to be a promising pan Euro series. KM |

Could we see history repeat itself? Recall in '91, the touring car formula was launched and became 4 door sedan only series in '93. Could the same happen in '01 with the BTC rules becoming 4 door sedans only series by '03??? =)
I can't believe there are so many narrow minded stubborn members (LIKE MYSELF!!!) who love 4 door sedans this much!!!! ;-) BRING IT ON!!! |

i think the current entries are perfect for the new rules! they have good power to weight ratios etc and provide closer racing (cos theyre cheaper to repair!!!) i dont think id like to see the vectras and mondeos running under the new rules cos id be expecting them to look and sound like the super tourers!!!!!!!
all we need now is more works teams and if the BBC doesnt like the coverage i'm sure C4 will have it! theyve got the best sports coverage out of all the channels! be it motorsport or cricket and at least the coverage would be more predictable rather than the BBC's random scheduling! |

I think any car that is more than 4.2 metres long should be allowed in. That will get rid of the hatches and leave in the coupes and 4 door cars. I personally prefer 4 door touring cars, but remember the Nissan GTR, Ford Sierra RS500 and BMW M3 were 2 door cars.

hey, let's put it this way- the btcc is still okay, not as good as it once was, but its doing better than it would with the old regulations.

Personally, i do prefer the 'older' cars-the saloon cars. But i dont have aproblem with the Coupes and 147-i do dislike the Hatchbacks racing, but i think they are ok in production, but having 4 doors isn't the be-all and end-all of the BTCC. Tha Astra and 406 Coupes look stunning to me!

i think the manufacturers should produce two types of cars...eg Vauxhall should produce the Astra and Vectra for Touring Car racing
