Don't forget to brake at Park corner. I didn't once. And it cost me a car.

See if you can find Maria Brown - one of the instructors. She knows her way round Cadwell
Well done for getting this far, and good luck! Last edited by Chris Y; 11 Oct 2003 at 20:23. |

Good luck! Cadwell is one of *the* best circuits in the country.
Which configuration are you going to be on? Full I hope.. Presume you've got a Motoring News / Autosport circuit guide? If you can try and do a track walk before taking part.. From what I remember (in a Ginetta G20 last year - 2002, full circuit).. Over start/finish, 1st corner (left hander), little braking needed as it rises steeply - watch out for revs dropping and change gear as necessary. Next couple of corners (right and right) can be fairlyr quick, but you want to make the second one properly as then you're downhill and then back up hill, absolutely flat out, loads of time to make up. Think it's a right and then a curving right, again quite quick. Then downhill to the 'gooseneck', which needs to be taken well, with a bit of kerbing (if dry!), loads of usable stuff on the exit/exit kerb. You'll have to brake for the next left hander whilst going downhill - don't want to outbrake yourself here, so extend the braking zone. Then I think it's the left hander and up the 'mountain', get the braking right for that and then absolutely floor it over the mountain - car can go light, so make sure it's all straight.. In to the trees - can be difficult early on (we were just on the limiter there, so difficult to select a gear), plus will almost certainly be damp and stay damp for longer than the rest of the circuit due to the shade. You need to be brave through there, first entry is quite slow, but next combination is quicker than you think and need to be on the kerbing to straighten it (where all the uninviting banking is built up - you should be quite quick through there, or possibly not take so much speed off beforehand as opposed to giving lots of loud pedal). Right hander - 90 degrees or so, need to be good on the brakes, but can be quite nice and quick and then it's downhill all the way through the last corner 'Barn' which you want to get right to go over the start/finish straight with as much speed as possible and then into turn 1.. You can take a lot of speed in to the first corner, for the reasons mentioned at the start, it's uphill so gradient will slow the car for you. Definitely one of my favourite circuits - takes a little getting used to as it's so different to many of the others, but after racing on it, quite a few circuits seem quite dull. All the above is my own personal experience of Cadwell.. As suggested try and collar one of the locals or experts. A circuit guide will reinforce some of the points, esp. the dampness of parts of the circuit (if you use that part).. Hope it helps a bit, apologies for not being able to remember any of the corners. Let us know how you get on. EPS www.epsracing.co.uk |

Good luck Rache
I've already done the assessment day at Cadwell, and they only use the first part of the track for the Formula Woman - first part as ginettag27 said, through gooseneck, down hill & through left-hander, then track changed to go through right hand hairpin back to the first corner - its pretty tight, so really slow in the MX5s they use. Don't worry too much - it's a really relaxed & fun day. You only get to drive 3 laps for the initial assesment anyway - I think they're looking more for good lines, and ability to listen & take on board what the instructor's telling you to do than actual speed. I'm off back to Cadwell for a track day on Friday, and can't wait to have another go at it - it's a great circuit. |

Hahahah postponed! They rang me today and there was a mix up with my name (hence my email being addressed "Dear Deborah"). I am now going to the SNETTERTON assessment day on 28th October......
Bit more time to panic then! I did wonder why I wasn't going to my local track. |
