Round 9: Valencia
"Gustl" has scored his first pole for BMW in the DTM! Very nice to see a proper touring car driver having success in the DTM.
Mercedes meanwhile suffered from a badly handling car. All eliminated cars in Q1 were Mercs. Audi on the other hand looks pretty strong, so Farfus will have quite an armada of Audi to battle. |

It looks like some BoP is there. Besides, Gary has made a great gift to Bruno but Schnitzer couldn't get more out of it.

The more realistic explanation could be that the Mercedes were just that bad on their rear axle. I just wonder why it happened in Valencia of all the places. |

Couldn't they just put some extra kilos? Since all the cars have almost standard suspension I can't imagine how they could loose so much in pace. In that situation I only happy for Robert Wickens who showed his skills. He picked up the speed over the season and now really deserves a works drive.

Today we saw that the DTM is not a race between 22 drivers, or even 11 teams, but between 3 brands. It is very fortunate that BMW is competitive in their first year, otherwise the races could be very predictable and boring.
The Australians show that is is possible to have exiting races with only 2 brands. You just have to make sure that teams who run the same gear are really independent of eachother. The finale will be very exiting. Hopefully the teammates of the 2 rivals are more fair than today. |

Hmm, the DTM, which I was unable to see. Thanks very much ESPN - tonight at 01:45 is no bloody good!!
If you can't put it on Live, then give the rights up....they're wasted being on ESPN. |

The cars are still too expensive for independent teams - they have to pay for quick and safe cars.
And no hope that Hockenheim is going to have any sort of intrigue. Mercs are going to fill all the top places. |

After Spengler got a drive-through penalty for a jump start, he had to work his way back to the points. He eventually managed to get close to Priaulx, and Andy being a good BMW driver, decided to let Bruno pass. Frey was fighting with Priaulx for his position at the same time (On her own merit, and that's not to say that Priaulx had a particularly bad car today!), thus both she and Spengler tried to pass Priaulx from both sides. While Spengler was able to get past Priaulx, Priaulx and Frey got stuck on each other. In the end, Audi, like the wiener whiners they are, complained to race control, who told Priaulx to let her pass. Ironically enough, Frey wasn't complaining about Priaulx's defense, claiming that she would have also done, had she been in his situation! Still, it shows once again my absolute distaste for Audi and the team ABT. I can already predict for 2013 that Audi will relegate Mortara and Rockenfeller to ABT, in order to "restore" their status as Audi's #1 team. Thus, I can only applaud BMW for seemingly treating its team equally, and of course I'm happy that a proper touring car driver has finally shown that he can also win a DTM race! Congratulations, Gustl! |

That Priaulx maneuver letting Spengler to pass was very entertaining, a masterpiece - no laugh. But after that Andy decided to play Hooligan - Rahel was already in front and her move was very clean. All in all race director made a smart decision to force BMW to give that position away.
Besides, that situation, when even Frey is going quicker than some BMW drivers is very strange. I mean well, she's a sportswoman of high level, but all that history with Merc fall and almost all Audi drivers in points - it's very strange. I think it's a first time in DTM history. But anyway, it's obvious that at Hockenheim it could be 100% different. The only reason for BMW to win is a kind of conspiracy - Merc won the very first new DTM title as the main founder. Audi won 2004 title for their decision to enter a new 4-doors DTM. Now BMW can win for their decision to support (again) new DTM. In all other ways this one is going to be Paffett's. |

Well, Ralf was very close at the start of the season, as close as Christian Vietoris was. But then DTM aces put everything in right places and drop newcomers and brand-ambassadors from the train.

Besides, Green or Paffett said that it's very strange to have such an awful results because Oschersleben and Valencia are not too much different.
