On the other forum someone usd the torque figures visible in the foreground of the film to calculate bhp - which was over 900! Maybe the torque numbers were deliberatel wrong, or they calculated wrong. Or maybe not.

I also see a peak (assuming that is ft lb torque in the bottom left corner) at about 270 ft lb and 18000 rpm. That works out to 925 hp. But Cosworth claims 700 HP:
http://f1.racing-live.com/en/headlin...14102341.shtml I can only assume that its NOT torque in the bottom, but something else. |

Wouldn't like them for neighbours.
f1-live mentions 21000 rpm - funny though the video doesn't sound as high pitched as the V10's we have now - is that just because it's in a soundproofed booth? |

it could be partly to do with it having two less cylinders which means for every 1 rpm, there is two less sounds.

Which would give the power at 680bph. Which is closer to watch Cossie are claiming. |

and with the extra 1,000 rpm that we havent seen in the video that may indicate that it is over 700 bhp as said by KK himself.

That might be it Adam. I thought they'd be on the Imperial system in the UK; I forgot you too have made the switch to the metric system

The video indicates that the torque drops after 18000 though as you'd expect. The peak power will be after the peak torque. It could well be over 700, but it will occur before 20000rpm as at just before the 20000rpm the torque (if we have that right) has dropped to 223. Giving a power of 630bhp.
Looking at 18957rpm. Torque is still quite high and here power is 740bhp ish. Assuming everything we have assumed is right! Not least what that engine is! |

Cosworth themselves claimed over 20,000rpm in F1 Racing mag two months ago.

So much for Max's brilliant idea of dropping to 2.4L V8's to reduce costs.
More revs = more new technology = costs a fapping fortune! Still say that a fuel based formula would be the best idea. Here's 150L of regular 95RON unleaded that we bought at the xyz filling station / tesco's supermarket just down the road - now race on it. No topping up in the race, you start with 150L and that's it. Spill it when you fill the car up - tough tytties! But yes, 20000rpm! Wow, that used to be turbine territory once upon a time! |

at the moment f1 cars are 10 seconds faster than GP2 cars at most circuits, now the V8s are about 5 seconds off the pace, with progression and development from GP2 cars we could see the gap as much as 3 seconds. And mad maxes stone age f1 rules for 2008 will prolly make them slower still!
the way mad max is heading he may as well give the f1 drivers a wooden car from the flintstones! |

Cosworth
Torque (n/mtrs) x revs /9555 = kws 263 x 18383/9555 = 505 kw or 672 hp
