Massive Recognition For Winner Of Youth Superkart Championships

Shane Wright, the winner of the 2003 / 2004 SA Youth Superkart Championships has achieved a dream. After test driving a Formula Ford provided as a reward for performance of the 2004 Series Shane has been selected to run a fully prepared Formula Ford Race Car in the Victorian Formula Ford Championships, a V8 Support Series round, Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000. Shane will have access to a spare car as well. The whole deal is for a similar cost to running his Rotax Max Superkart in 2004!

This reward is being provided thanks to Rundle Racing / U-Drive SA, and reflects the recognition being provided to drivers from the Superkart Youth Championships. Another Youth Championship competitor Asher Johnston was selected for the Australian Motor Sports Foundation Driver Development Program and was 'pipped' for a funded drive in a Formula Ford by Brett Hobson. Asher has started competing as part of the G-Force Formula Ford Team at the Clipsal 500. Nick Percat has also moved to Formula Ford after competing successfully in the Youth Superkart Championships in 2004. Both are gaining significant recognition.

Starting again in mid June 2005 in both South Australia and Victoria, the Youth Superkart Championships offers Formula Ford test drives thanks to front running Formula Ford Team G-Force Mygale Formula Ford and Ross Bentley Speed Secrets Seminars. The top drivers will also be corporate guests with the Betta Electrical V8 Supercar team at Sandown 500 in Victoria and FPR at Clipsal 500 in SA with access to the teams during the event thanks to Betta Electrical and the Australian Motor Sports Foundation.

Drivers must not have competed for more than one year in Superkarts and will run in the Rotax Max (age 16 - 25) or Max Junior (age 12 - 15) classes. Superkarting is fast becoming a recognised stepping stone between Sprint and Superkarting and a launching pad for young drivers looking to move to bigger things in motorsport. Details about the series will be televised on SBS Speedweek on May 1 when these classes compete at the AMRS round 2 for the Australian Superkart Championships
