20D Firmware update scare

Just scared myself witless updating the firmware on my Canon 20D. I copied the update file to a Lexar CF and started the procedure which initially went well but then hung at 94%. Canon say the entire procedure should take 2 minutes but after 25 minutes there was still no change. Could not abort the procedure and finally had to remove the battery but then found myself in a loop whereby when I switched the power on it tried to update itself but hung at 94% again. I realised that I had got a 3rd party battery in and replaced it with the original Canon version and for good measure put the update file on a Sandisk card (getting really worried at this point!). This time everything went well and the camera is operational again.
I'm not sure whether the original file was corrupted, or whether there was an issue with the card or battery - has anyone had this problem?

acording to canon.jp website the following are required

(1-A) Battery Pack BP-511A or BP-514 (The battery pack must be fully charged.)
(1-B) AC Adapter Kit ACK-E2 (sold separately)
(2) CF card (8MB or more, 2GB or less)

was your lexar card larger than 2GB ?
cards smaller than 2gb possibly are formatted fat16 not fat32 like larger cards

ive just downloaded update today havent applied it yet

apparently there is a fault with some 80x lexar cards
see http://www.lexar.com/support/cust_advisory.html
ive just checked my 4GB card its on the list & will have to be replaced
must get RMA number & send off
i wonder if this is the cause of your upgrading trouble
regards
andrew

Thanks for the link Andrew - the card is a Lexar professional 1GB version. I was aware there was a problem in some instances but I didn't know that you could return the card. Mine is on the list and I have just obtained the RMA number and will return it on Monday.
I have also just checked the card with the Lexar Image Rescue utility and it is showing read errors, so it seems that it is the card after all.
