March 79B chassis #13

Hello,

My father recently acquired a 1979 March 79b, chassis #13. We are attempting to trace its early race history. So far we have been able to determine that it was owned/driven in historic events around New York/ Michigan by Tim Gaffny. Prior to the 1990's it was believed to be owned/driven by a driver named Carmelo Crisafulli in Brooklyn NY. The earliest documented history found was a picture of it being driven in the Robeling Road Savannah Historic Races in 1996. I would appreciate it If anyone has any information that could help track the cars early history.

Respectfully,

Mike

Hi Mike

Overlooked this post back in November.

One way to start with the history will be any stamp on the roll hoop. Even if the car has lost its SCCA log books, there should be a stamp there from its first appearance at an SCCA event. That will tell us much about when and where it entered the second division of US racing. There should be two digits followed by a dash, then three more digits.
Of course, the hoop may have been chromed by an enthusiastic restorer, in which case we're a bit stuffed.
Please, could you also post a picture of the chassis plate here. It will, or should, contain more data than just the chassis number, and while that's not going to help find the first owner it will help us reconstruct the March chassis records.

Also, could you post a picture of the roll hoop. Two at least of the 22 built had locally modified roll hoops (cars of Jeff Wood and Cliff Hansen) and we might be able to identify the car through that.

Sorry for the lengthy delay. Life always gets in the way. The roll bar stamp is a little bit hard to read but it appears to be 02-314.
