true HP figures of the 2004 audi r8 figures!!!!
Read the interview of allan Mc NIch on lmsr.net. It is stated that the 3.6 twin turbo fsi v8 is reach 650 hp and not the poor 550 hp that audi states. Finally, the ten % power reduction has been solved, at least for the ingolstad squad. But i suspect that it's the case for some other engine manufacturer as judd or mugen in lmp900 and zytech in lmp 675. This could explain why lap times are near to the 2002 level. Your thoughts???
PS for Mulsanne Mike: I think that you can change the old figures in the 2004 r8 notes. The new statements may be quite reliable. |

I certainly wouldn't call that pure fact. No offense to the author, but it simply sounds like a writer anecdotalizing a few facts about the Audi. You don't have Ulrich Baretzky making any statements in the article. And rarely are drivers good sources for technical details. I still recall the article that quoted Geoff Brabham as saying that the Peugeot 905 generated more downforce in LM trim than the Nissan GTP did in max downforce. Driver perception is generally a very poor guage.

On McNish's website, and in a few interviews, he says it produces around 630BHP in 2004 spec.
Assuming that is a pretty accurate figure, what is the Nasamax, with a 10% bigger restrictor, producing? Would the Judd, being a customer engine, be pushed less than the 'works' Audi engine? Last edited by JAG; 6 Jun 2004 at 22:21. |

Of course all this could be solved with a simple run down the 1/4 mile.
You'll never see Audi subject the car to this, so you'll have to use computer modeling which isn't that far off givin the talent of today's code writers. I think the R8 is alot close to 600hp than it is to 550hp, but you can say that for just about every car in LMP-1. Power is only part of what makes the car hard to beat straight up. The Lola is able to generate the same or more cornering power than the R8, but has less engine to get it down long straights and is at a disadvantage whrere you only give the throttle short burst (ie street tracks and tight twisty tracks under 2 miles). So like I said the R8 is prolly right around that number and not a hp less, prolly more. |

I would guess that the Nasamax is generating in the region of 650 hp given they can run '02 restrictors. Makes sense as it was the quickest thing in a straight line at Monza (318 km/h vs around 310 for the Audis). Given that the '04 Nasamax is around 15% draggier than a '03 car like the Audi, clearly it is producing the most power. And '02 specs for a Judd V10 were around 650 hp. So I don't think the R8 is generating anything like 650. I'd say its closer to 600 at best, though certainly not the 550 Audi claims. As a guesstimate, I'd put the '03 Audi at around 580-590 tops.

I don't believe any HP numbers, I think they usually have more when a car is dominant (or when one is struggling and they are making a case but that isn't a case for the Audi).
Ferrari's F1 engine was "over 600 horsepower" from about 1995 to 2000. |

Same for the JGTC. A GT500 car has nearer to 600BHP! Hence the need for Honda to switch to a turbo engine to keep up with the turbo and big capacity Skylines and Supras.
