MSA Cards

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a problem obtaining my MSA card for 2004. In October of last year I upgraded to course marshal and recieved confirmation of this from my club, the BMMC. I re-newed my membership in January and have not recieved anything from the MSA regarding either the grading change or a card for the 2004 season.

Bob Rae at the BMMC has tried to chase up the issue, as have I by writing and emailing the MSA, but with no reply.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

James Crook.

After the club accepts the upgrade it can take some time to submit to MSA, MSA to process etc.
As said earlier, wait a bit and it'll probably appear. If after a month you haven't had sucess from MSA or BMMC, you can PM me and I will try and help.

Wiggles, My advice to you is give up all hope of seeing your new grading card this year. I tried to up-grade last year at the start of the season and only got my new card three weeks ago. Reason was the lovely people at the MSA claimed they were to busy to sit down and hold the meeting to sort out all the re-grading for last year or they could not all get to the meetings. So don't hold your breath while waiting for it to arrive.

Those MSA people don't have to have any meetings for upgrading. The changes are sent by the clubs each month, circulated to the marshals upgrade panel, and then, as long as no-one objects, are (or should be) processed to provide a new card. The whole process should only take a month.
The panel only meet once a year but that is primarily to consider the system not to deal with individual upgrades.

Steve, My advice to you, is ring and pester till you become a real pain in the proverbial. This kind of Mal' administration should not be tolerated.

RANT ON!!
Personaly, this exemplifies all that is rotten with Officials Licencing for Motor Sport in this country. We should not have to put up with this kind of 'Tardy' response. It's a prime example of the very Woolly Process that surrounds Rescue Licensing and I make no apologies for saying so.
If my comment upsets anyone I would challenge them to prove otherwise, Offline preferably.
Having decided to return to 'active' involvement this year I have already experienced the 'amateur' process in practice. Gents it's a farce!
I walked away two years ago because I was disenchanted with the poor system. So far I can't see that anythings changed. It still lacks credibility.

RANT OFF!!

After all that, I'll still be out and about. Can't stay away......

Stay Safe,

Jim Lamb

If you've been away for 3 years I suspect the system hasn't realised and you still have the same grade. After all: the people looking cards to ensure people all still attending haven't been checking.
If you have still been getting your card from MSA then you are still graded.
If not, go to your prime club who should be able to put through what your grade should be "based on previous experience". This may be your prev grade or something slightly lower depending on what you might have forgotten??

I'm sorry you appear to have been treated so poorly. The stsyem should work but I guess its down to current workload.
Trying to get officials, marshals and drivers info out at the same time must put a strain on MSA. But no excuses - it should work. I believe that there are thoughts of issuing grading cards every two years which would take away the strain and allow upgades etc to be handled better. Lets hope so but I'm not holding my breath.

Jim - i agree, as i have said before the system needs to be improved and changed, but few will stand up and be counted for a revolution.

discalimer :- please take the word revolution in the meaning at which it was sent, slightly toungue in cheek, not to literally before the hit squads of the bmmc, acu & msa come after me

Good to hear (or is it?) that other people have had the same problems.

Deep breath people. Relax. This is a volunteer activity. So we have to accept that things go wrong sometimes. Oops, I just realised that I am referring to the MSA as a volunteer activity!

More practically, don't worry about the non-arrival of pieces of paper. I have never known anyone turned away for the lack of them. And this covers about 15 years of Rescue licensing. Even in the days when Derek Ongaro (a lovely man) was running things, paperwork was not instant.

If you can tell the club you wish to work for that you have done the days/training days, they will welcome you.

Don't stress, but don't give up harassing Thrush HQ.

Regards

Jim

I'm sure that your club will happily help you by confirming to the MSA that the original documentation was sent and was in order. I would be surprised if there were any problems with this, but I would not hold your breath while it happens.

If you still have problems after this, PM me and I will see what could be done.

Regards

Jim

I didn't get my marshal's licence but I did get my Clerk's licence so I rang the MSA and spoke to a very helpful lady in the licensing department who told me that my marshal's licence had gone to my old address and promptly issued me with a new one. Instead of people just saying the system isn't very good, why don't you ring them up and talk to them?

I agree Sheila.
Sometimes the MSA "System" might not be brilliant, but they usually do manage to sort out individual problems once they are made aware of them!

With my upgrade to Examining Obs - it was the MSA who called me to let me know it had gone through -not the BMMC!
