Who knows noses
Perhaps this has been covered elsewhere, but what would be the aerodynamic necessity of the new elongated noses on IRL cars? I have to admit, when I first saw a photo of one of the things, I thought it was a literally a joke. But I guess these things are real, no? What gives?

The Dallara Aero package has changes substantially from last year....notice the major differences in teh side pods and the engine cowling areas....
This Image below is from the IRL site's photo gallery...compare it to the Dallara image you posted above... My take on the side pod change (especially the back portion and the slope angle of the whole pod on teh 2004) is that they are going more toward the G-Force design here...and the G-Force seemed to be better in "dirty air" in traffic than the Dallara last year... Your thoughts??? |

I agree with you Tim,
the two chassis competitors seem like havinh swapped their typical features, as the two open tests clearly show. Let's just wait and see what changes will be added to the cars befor ethe season starts. |

wow what a change- this can't be good for TV
or spectators i guess it happens in an all aero series, they really are inverted air planes. if TG would mandated a limit on the front end length this might help the poor car i personally liked the last generation of cars |

more! they really are the real deal! looks better from this angle http://www.latphotomedia.com/toyota/.../levitt_manpan The Gforce wins hands down in this beauty contest, lets see if the speed is there. an insider tells me that the gforce is allowed certain 'help' from TG rule wise, as TG is afraid to have IRL become a spec series and have it run only Dallaras... http://www.latphotomedia.com/toyota/...levitt_manwall Our man Manning! look at the side pod flare! wow. http://www.latphotomedia.com/toyota/...levitt_dixtree the champ- this a proper looking racer |

The noses on the Dallaras were slim and pointy last year, too...
the real big changes are in the sidepods and the engine cowling.... The quick & easy way to tell the Dallara from the G-Force is the noses |

You hit the nail on the head Tim, if you want to tell the difference between the Dallara and the G-Force, just look at the nose!
I have to see how they look going around the track before I can say whether I really like them or not. Almost all radical designs, such as the Dallara is, take some time to warm-up to. |

Actually, the quickest way to tell the difference between the G-Force and Dallara is that one is ugly, and one is not. I had just started thinking the Dallara was ok, but now they made it even more ugly.

It makes sense to me that if they could make it longer and a genteler slope they would. All three of those pictures are really cool, but especially the helmet one.

Last year's Dallara looked good on the track at Indy...
But the G-Force was superior in traffic and in drafting situations last May... That's why De Ferran ultimately won it in a G-Force, and why Scheckter led a lot of laps in the same chassis... |

I hate the way the Dallara looks, especially in comparison to the G-Force, that's partly why I use a G-Force in the Indycar game.

Another note...maybe someone can help me with a picture of this:
Notice on the frontal shot of the G-Force above that the outer edge of the sidepod is higher than where it connects to the cenral portion of the chassis.... Last year, the Dallara sidepods were slightly sloped, if at all, if I remember correctly.... Does anyone have a similar frontal shot of the Dallara from this year, so that we can compare these differences as well???? Thanks! |

Note...the G-Force has always had that inward slope on the sidepods...
I'm not sure if it is more pronounced this year than in previous years though.... This feature was not as noticeable on the Dallara last year...and I remember those types of details... |
