This looks like being the first time that someone can stop Max Verstappen at home.

We have a fascinating championship situation that reminds me a bit of 2009, where the leader is progressively chased down and sees the points lead reduce. Unlike in 2009, though, will he fail to hold on? Also unlike 2009, there are more drivers in contention for the win, 'taking points off each other', which may help Verstappen to cling on.

Weather looks dodgy as hell on both Friday & Saturday, less so on Sunday (dry race forecast at this stage). 80kmh wind gusts forecast for Friday could really have a big impact.

Tricky for the teams and drivers but can make it even betterer entertainment for us in our lounge rooms - looking forward to it.

Albon is DSQd from qualifying because the car's floor was too wide and starts from the back of the grid.

I don’t understand the double Dutch about Albion’s DQ. The FIA said the floor was within tolerances but their measuring kit also said it was outside of the allowed dimensions?

Is it possible that you have misunderstood the FIA's bulletin? It states that the measurements fall outside the FIA's regulatory volume; however, the team claimed that their own measurements on their own equipment were that it fell inside the volume, but that they didn't dispute the FIA's findings.

The Stewards did note that the FIA's system, not the team's, was the relevant system one in this matter.

Indeed.... it is odd that someone who took absolutely no part in qualifying actually qualified better than his teamate who reached Q3.....

Hmmm one would've thought they should be the other way round but it must be down to the way the regs are written?

Meanwhile Norris has given himself a great opportunity with that pole lap.
Let's see if he's worked on improving his starting procedure.

I would assume that it works the same way as it does when drivers achieve identical times; the driver that did it first has the higher grid slot. In this case, the Stewards approved Sargent starting the race, because his times were outside 107%, before they approved the starting, because of the theoretical "no times set", therefore outside of 107%, due to the disqualification of Albon.

Yes, I guess ultimately Albon's DSQ was some 2-3 hours after qualy had actually finished, by the time the Stewards had met with Williams to discuss their findings formally. Logan had already been formally approved to race, albeit from the rear of the classified runners. Albon being actually DSQ'd was not classified I guess, and anyway the timing put him last in the queue.
