There are firms that specialise in repairing dog gears that advertise in various mags but I don't know how cost effective they are for how long they will last, Quaife's have re machined some (of their own) for me in the past
However I have had a fair bit of success having just the corners welded (by a specialist) and just cleaned them up with the angle grinder with a fine disc as they don't have to be perfect to hold in. http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-t...strations.html Last edited by GORDON STREETER; 29 Mar 2012 at 21:45. |

Really? Does that work? I might be interested in this. I replaced a laygear because it was worn. The replacement shed all its teeth! It took an age to get another from Jack Knight, so I would be quite up for a spare...
Especially as this seems to be the norn! http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...ht=jack+knight http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...89#post2449189 (last one includes a link to my worn gear) At the moment it is holding up books on the bookshelf! Last edited by Adam43; 29 Mar 2012 at 21:55. |

This guy did it without any "amazing" machinery.
http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/showthread.php?t=48346 As I said they don't have to be absolutely perfect as the design is very crude for a start ! This is only for repairing the dogs ( the gear teeth are something else) Last edited by GORDON STREETER; 29 Mar 2012 at 22:10. |

Just pop along to most good motorcycle repair shops and ask them to do it or where they get their dogs repaired.
Motorcycles have been having damaged dogs underground since I was a kid, don't forget that this is a standard gear type for millions of motorcycles. |
