Pepsi 400: The Big One

Arguing over who will actually win the Pepsi 400 on Saturday night is a very moot point; we all know that NASCAR allows DEI to build illegal restrictor-plate engines to ensure that either Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Michael Waltrip wins. The big question of debate, of course, is what degree of destruction will come with a 40-car traffic jam at 195 miles per. I'm talking about the Big One, and it happens every race. It can come on the first lap, it can come on the last, it can come in the turns, it can come on the straights, and it can come on the tri-oval, but we all know it's coming, and the only thing that is left to discuss is how many cars it will lie mangled in its wake. So how many?

Didn't happen in February.....or at Talladega last year (Caution free!!!)

Maybe it's not such a foregone conclusion after all??

Didn't happen at the 500 (or the 272.5 as it turned out this year) because the race didn't last long enough for it to happen. The drivers are sometimes so fearful of the big one at Talladega that no one makes a move the whole race, and it only results in a caution-free parade.

There are a few none regular drivers racing this weekend who will be going hell for leather to make a eputation for themselves. My prediction is that one of them(Compton/Kerry Earnhardt if he qualifies), or one of this seasons highly eratic rookies(Foyt, Sprague, Biffle or Mears) to spark an 11-15 car pile up on a restart half way through the race.

I'm puzzled by the DEI accusation. Why would Nascar allow one team to cheat? It doesn't make sense to me. Can't they just be better at restrictor races?

You have to remember it's not so much the erratic drivers out there it more the erratic air coming off the cars. One miniute your getting sucked along faster the the guy ahead of you the next your being push back by an open lane in front of you. And who knows how how the car is going to react when they get 3 wide door handle to door handle. I think there will be a wreck my bets on Steve Park being involved. JMO

I voted for less than 10 cars, only because there was no poll on if U think there will be no "big one",which is what I believe will not happen,in recent years the "big one" hasn't happened that often & I tend to think that this trend(hopefully)will continue!
I'd still like to see the plates come off!JMO!

IF there is a big one....I think Newbie Shane Nmeil will cause it.

I saw the BUSCH race from Milwaukee last week, when he drove like a lunatic, crashing into the leader when he himself was a lap down, leading me to curse at the screen, so today when I learnt he was debuting in the Winston cup for the first time I was a little worried.....

If he's still in the BUSCH race too then he has TWO chances to cause a big one.

Hi muggle not,I sure hope that Ur right about that,as Jeff Gordon hasn't won an RP race since 1999 Daytona 500,& in this weeks event the Pepsi 400,He hasn't won since 1998,I do think that He's overdue for a RP win!
