Takuma should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hesketh 308 series

Does anyone know the location &/or ownership of any of the Hesketh F1 cars from the 74-78 era.

I believe there were 5 cars of the orignial Harvey Postlethwaite designed, 308/308b/308D series

and 2 Hesketh built 308C's, later added to with a Williams built tub.

Also there were, I think, 5 308F series cars, designed by Frank Dernie and Nigel Stroud, I could be wrong on that though.

I would be interested to here any info anyone can supply.

Thanks in advance

To start the ball rolling:

308/1 last heard of in the Schloss-Langenburg museum
308/2 scrapped 1974
308/3 became 308B/3, then 308D/3. Written off in Ertl’s 1976 Nurburgring accident

308B/2 Possibly rebuilt as 308D/2 and believed still owned by Lord Hesketh
308B/3 (see above)

308C/1 Later a Wolf-Williams. Sold at Brooks Nurburgring auction 1997 (owner unknown)
308C/2 Later a Wolf-Williams. Dismantled 1976 (parts to Williams FW05/1)

308D/2 (see above)
308D/3 (see above)
308D/4 Last known addresss: in USA 1988

308E/1 written off by Keegan 1977, though possibly rebuilt and now in ownership of Philip Walker, UK
308E/2 written off 1977
308E/3 Dismantled 1978. Parts used for 308E/6
308E/4 Rolf Lamberty, Germany
308E/5 With Patrick Baudouin in France 1995
308E/6 sold in UK 1991

E&OE!

308B/02 had a run at Goodwod Festival this year, the programme shows entrant as Lord Hesketh, driven by David Hunt.

It was indeed driven at the Festival of Speed by David Hunt who wore James helmet etc. I didn't see Lord Hesketh there but would assume he visited over the weekend.

I always thought that it was either a Hesketh 308 (C,D or E) that was the the donor car for the IBEC.

I think it was based on parts from a 308E, rather than a complete car. The IBEC came out in time for the 78 Le Mans, when the F1 team was just about finished as I recall. Though earlier that year, Daly could have won the International Trophy in one of these cars, the Hesketh that is not the IBEC ! The 308Es came out in Aurora later that year, then Ted Williams had 2 of them on the Hills/Sprints I think.

I think the car listed as owned by Philip Walker - driven by Andy Wolfe amongst others - is now owned and raced by Frank Lyons.

I only hope it wasn't the Hesketh that my neighbour bent at Mosport. Mr Ashley of course. For the record is now into side car racing big time.

Was this the car at the Stoneleigh show recently? There was a Hesketh on the Fred Goddard Racing stand but I have to confess I didn't get a close look at it, as I had my 9 year-old son with me and keeping him in sight was enough of a challenge! I know that ex-Team Lotus mechanics Bob Sparshott and Dale Porteous were involved in the rebuilding of the Lord Hesketh car, so I assume this is the one that appeared at the Festival.

The Car at Stoneleigh was 308C/2. The car was rebuilt by Fred Goddard Racing.

The Lord Hesketh 308/2 is a B/D series car, the 308C was a totally different design in 1975.

Didn't John Cooper run a pair of Heskeths in the Gp8 series in the late seventies? These were 308c - I think. He had Bob Evans in the other one.

In 1978, Cooper had FW05/3 (which was never a Hesketh as such, but built new in 1976), aswell as 308C/1. In the second half of the season, he & Evans used 308E/4 & /5

Where i work we rebuilt a 308c which we believed to be 308c-2. It is the sister car to the Fred Goddard car. The post which says that 308c-2 was broken up for parts would possibly work into the story for our car as inscribed into the top of the fuel cell is "chassis fwo5-1".

I do know that previous to us looking after the car it had stood as a show car for Evesham Vale computers. Prior to that i have no information.

If anyone has anymore news on the matter i would be interested to hear it.

thanks,
Anthony

Hesketh 308C

I had the pleasure recently of driving a Hesketh 308C, chassis 308c/1. This car is currently owned and raced by mr Steve Hartley who is currently racing in the Thoroughbred GP series.

I'm more than a little rusty on 30 year old chassis numbers, but this Hesketh 308 is raced in the US at Historic Grand PrixTM events. This photo from Road America 2006

I was definately in a 308C. The car was allegedly in a showroom for a number of years. I have a number of photos if only I could work out how to place them on the site.

The car that Gavin4BRM (Or is that Harry?) is referring to is the same car we look after for Mr. Hartley. I have been trying to research the car but can only go by what i can find. The sister car that was looked after by Fred Goddard Racing is now for sale on his website if anyone is interested?

As this is a Hesketh thread thought you might like this.........One of my relatives co-ordinated the Penthouse/Rizla sponsorship on the later cars he designed the "sexy lady" livery. However during either a Aurora or GP meeting Guy Edwards crashed the car (and her) so for the next meeting a livery of the "sexy lady" with her legs in plaster was drawn up, sadly it was never used but it would have been a great PR stunt! I'll try and get him on here as he has lots of great stories from his days with Hill(senior)Hunt and Hesketh, not all printable.......
