The Neil Howard Stage Rally - Oulton Park

I've just noticed that Oulton Park is staging the The Neil Howard Stage Rally on Saturday 10 November 2012

As a fairly newbie marshal, can someone please help me to know how I can get myself on the volunteer sheet please?

I'm a regulare at Oulton Park, but never done a rally stage and thought I'd give it a go.

Seen this myself as well, it's a long time since Oulton has staged a rally, having been involved in one in the early 80's

I would also be intersted in marsalling on this one and will be contacting the orgainsing club to ask the question

If i get an answer i will post on here

I have been in touch with Bolton Le Moors, but no details as yet, as and when we get stuff I shall post it here and the outpost, if there is time.

In the mean time, here is just about the last time a Rally used OP, yes thats flat chat pits to fosters WD, not a lot of run off going that way!

I have now had word from Bolton Le Moors, they would like us to run a sector of the rally, (bit like a normal post, but probably a couple of posts) It would be good to get any circuit marshals that have not done a rally together and we can run a newbies guide to rallying day, with an actual rally going on.

Entry list so far has quite a few WRC cars, plus 6R4s and the Odd Darrian, coupled with a slide of Mk2s (slide is the collective for Mk2 escorts)

Anyone intersted, can they please PM me or email me north@brmc.org.uk and we can let the club have a list of names

Glad you enjoyed yourself, joining the "Oulton Crew" at the Clown roundabout, that had to be the least eventful prom stages for me for a few years

I'll be out on this event as well, I waas involved in rallying at Oulton , early 80's with Chester MC when we ran the Ian Harwood stages there, my memories are of sweeping the track at then end of the day as the cars rejoined the track from the gate on the start straight

Thanks to everyone for all the e mails so far, hope I have replied to everyone.

To answer a few FAQs, treat it as a race day, bring the kit you would bring for a race day, only in November! I do not know the number of stages being run, but the entry is 90 cars, running at 1 mins will mean a stage takes 90 mins to run, a little bit more if they run 2 stages at once, slotting cars in at 30 sec intervals.

Thus, if they run 8 stages over 4 different stage layouts you will have the equivilent of 4 90 min "races" there will be a gap between each different stage layout whilst the stage is changed around, this is something the marshals will probably help with to keep the gaps as short as possible. I expect the change from normal circuit direction to wrong direction will be the longest gap, possibly the equivilent of "Lunch"

There is a 6 pm cut off, so getting to the NW AGM and Hotpot is a nice day to round the day off!

Won't be able to go to this event, as its the day I get back from Tenerife, but I bet it'll be good - used to compete on Stage rallies at Oulton (amongst other places) in the 70s and 80's......one of my most memorable being co-driving an XJS V12 manual - my driver had a background of scramble bike racing, so was never knowingly travelling in a straight line....I remember him changing up into top as we came over Hilltop - I clocked the speedo at 120 at this point as we accelerated - and then (no chicane at Knicker Brook then) he threw it sideways into Knicker Brook - as we hurtled across the grass towards the tyre wall I thought of the helpful things I could say - like "mind the wall" - but he collected it up and we shot back onto the track, overtaking the car that had passed us when we were off-track as we went over the brow towards Druids, and continued to stage finish........it was only when we got back into the Paddock that I discovered we had peeled off the rubber rear bumper cover on the tyre wall.......the marshals recovered it for us and we got a Paddock announcement asking us to collect it!

Marshals used to love watching my driver. Charlie Belfield......

Lodge the wrong way round was interesting, too......

From the regs available for download

"Cars will start each stage at 30 second intervals. The event will contain 8 special stages covering approx. 52 miles"

8 WRC cars, plus a 2.5 Darrian, at one end of the field, F1000 micra and an Imp at t'other,

Stages look to be 6.5 miles avarage, so 2 laps plus a bit of wiggling round the pit lane and maybe a bit of the paddock!

A few of my mates in there...and plenty of other names I recognise.....also somewhat sadly a few who are the sons of guys I competed against last time Oulton was used for a stage.....

Neil Howard Stages @ Oulton

Guys
Quick one - according to the website, it states you have enough marshals. Is that still the case or are you looking for two more - ie, Brigette & me?

Any names got to me befor the 9 Oct 9 (inc Mike +Bridgets) have gone forwards to Bolton Le Moors, they are now full. It looks like entry will be by name on the Gate, no guest tickets.

Not much details on how things will be laid out, but looking at the stage length I think they may have to run 3 laps on some stages, which means cars every 10 seconds, pretty close for a rally, quite a bit of overtaking as well, also something that can be interesting in a rally stage.

Seeded Entry now up, Nigel Worswick in an escort WRC at No 1, he knows his way round OP from Boss Formula, followed by a 2.5 Darrian, Shaping up to be very interesting.

When full sign on details confirmed I will email those who mailed me and put a potted guide to the day on here and the Oulton Marshals FB page.

Dont forget its the NW region AGM, 'ot pot and Quiz night that day! Tickets from Ian Lewis

So when and where

OK - Happy with this no ticket thing (and I hope that my name is down for this) - since I started this thread many moons ago

Simple question - when and where?

What time do Marshals have to be there ?
and where is there - do we know which gate we will need to turn up at ?

Thermos at the ready !!
