Your Favourite Driver
Who is your favourite driver? I think we had a thread about this earlier in the year, but with so many new drivers, it really was a bit hard to pick out one.
I've become a fan of Mario Dominguez myself, I always love an underdog, and he's an outsider for a win or two this year. The car looks pretty racey, he's a nice bloke apparently, and I 'saw' his win at Surfers last year...hehe |

Right now, I've gotta say PT. He's been very much an ambassador for our sport. Although I'll admit that last year my favourite was Fernandez. It's hard to pick a real "favourite" from any of the new crop until I've had the opportunity to meet some of them. (Hopefully all that will change if/when I can line up a paddock pass for Toronto!) I don't like rooting for a guy who, in real life, is an arse. Regardless of his statistics. (That's why I was never a fan of Michael's).

Tracy at the moment . But i like the look of young Bourdais pushing him hard.

Roberto Moreno has always been my favourite. But I support all the drivers really. Unlike most other categories, there is no driver on the grid that I dislike. They all left!

I've been a fan of Michel Joudain for a fair while, I've talked to him a few times over the years and is a really nice guy.
But I don't think I've had a real favourite since Greg Moore |

I like Tiago Monteiro and Mario Dominguez -- both gentlemen and kind to journalists, both with a nice sense of humour and and very hard workers who will take a little longer to get up to speed but will be well worth the wait.
And incidentally, both 100% committed to Champ Cars as a career. |

Mario Dominguez has stepped up this year; so I say good on him. Even looks a bit fitter.

I would have to say Paul Tracey is my favorite, home town boy and all. But I think the real beauty of CART is that I can always find myself cheering for almost any driver at any time.
For instance I really wanted to see Michel Jourdain Jnr. win at Long Beach even if it came at the expense of PT. Alas that was not be be; but then I wanted to see Dominguez beat Bourdais at Germany (even though I am quickly becoming a Bourdais fan) but that didn't happen either. On reflection I think the best thing I could do for the Mexican drivers is too stop cheering for them. CART has always had that friendly feeling amongst it's teams and drivers, it almost feels like when I go race at my KART club and you can rub wheels and tell tall tales. The CART fraternity is just so welcoming that you want them all to win. |

Moreno, though I like Tracy more as each day goes by! I've always been a fan but he's never been one of my faves until recently!

Toughee... Probably Tagliani, but there isn't really anyone I don't like in the field this year.
What Crash Test said about Greg applies for me too though... |

Right at the moment.....Darren Manning, Paul Tracy, Mario Dominguez, Michel Jordain, Mario Haberfeld (exciting) and Rodolfo Lavin (cos of Walker, an I was impressed by his driving at Lautitz, he was fast enough for a top 5 there)

Moreno seems to be a lovely guy, and very talented, but he seems to be in the twilight of his career. I think one of the rookies will be my favourite by the end of the year, but I like Servia and Fernandez, I think some of the others are a little over-rated.

Patrick Carpentier... one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Who else would run the track (almost) naked after winning in Mid-Ohio.
I'm also becoming more and more fond of Darren Manning. He seems to really enjoy himself. Last edited by evo; 15 May 2003 at 18:56. |

I never really have a favorite. Manning is definately a quick and interesting guy. All three Canadians are quick and are pretty presonable. Jourdain is the underdog who finally made it and a nice guy.
From a purely speed standpoint you have to respect Bourdais. Dominguez kinda came accross in the past as a bit snotty, but he's now built up the speed. From a personality standpoint Vasser and Moreno are good guys, but neither of them seems to have the speed they once had. |

Hard to say... I guess Moreno, PT, and Manning. I'm very suprised with Tags this year, he's earning my support.

I wish I could say Mad Max, but ...
I've always loved PT, so I guess he's my main man right now along with Michel. This reminds me of something- in 99, knowing Max had no chance at championship, I knew I had to pick a contender. Even though I absolutley loved Montoya's style, and thought he was absolutley awesome, I ended up favoring Franchitti because, although he's not American, something inside made my instict to cheer for a fellow Anglo rather than a Latin. Just a little something interesting... |
