The American LeMans site is taking a poll of sportscar fans for the Sportscar of the Millenium and the the Sportscar Driver of the Millenium. There is such a wide range of incredible sportscars over the last 100 years and drivers as well that this is probably the toughest poll ever.
My picks are Jacky Ickx for his 24 Hours of leMans heroics, and the Porsche 962C for theirs as well. The results will be announced during the Race of 1000 Years at Adelaide this new years. |

I agree..this is a tough one..but i believe you have hit the nail right on the head KC..the Porsche 962's will probably be remembered as the greatest sportscars ever and with jack ickx as the one of the gretest drivers ever in anything in my books not just sportscars...
interesting little story concerning jacky Ickx..when he came to australia in the late 1970's to drive a ford falcon touring car at Mt Panorama, bathurst for the great 100km race teamed up with Allan Moffat..he went out did 2 laps and came screaming back in the pits yelling and screaming that the car had no brakes at all..the pedal went straight to the floor and he nearly crashed several times...team owner Allan moffat jumped in the car went out and did 2 laps came back in and got out and said "No, thats the way they are meant to be ..there isnt a problem with them at all" Jacky of course couldnt believe it and was amazed at how the drivers pulled the cars up..but within a practise session he was braking as late if not later than anyone else and setting excellent times learning to adjust his driving stlye to stop the V8 monster. he gets my vote as well. |
