Is anyone still interested in a PAL copy of the movie made by Steve McQueen? I have a solution, but it will need quite a few orders to make it worthwhile.

I would like to support a charity helping children out of some of the revenue.

It is - film does not exist in PAL, SECAM or DVD format.

The violins at the end are just appalling, as are Steves longing looks at Elga Anderson (Lisa) - sheeesh, what was he thinking!!!

This is Rob Slotemaker, who was the mentor of Jan Lammers. If I am right Slotemaker did the stunts in the movie.

Slotemaker died in a race at Zandvoort in the late 70s.

Jean Pierre Jabouille is the man who won a race when nobody noticed him -- the race in Dijon where Gilles came second and Rene Arnou came 3rd!

I don't recognize more than about seven of the names on that list.

You can get Speed Merchants on Duke's site (I think), or Librairie du Palmier in France...

I Bought it this week on DVD from HMV was only copy in shop so they do sell it.

O its fantastic BTW pretty weak story line but hey will forgive that for the cars and McQueen!

While we're on about films....
Did anyone buy a copy of Speed Tribe? I did, and have to say that I think it's pretty good.
There's two discs in the package, the first a DVD with two films on. Each film is a heavily re-worked video of the 2001 race, deluge and all, with Speed Tribes (electronic dance) soundtrack. The second disk is a CD of the soundtrack. Some of the in-car footage from an open car on the Mulsanne in the rain is top stuff.

I've had my copy (bought from HMV) on DVD for about two months now. So I know that you can buy it in PAL format as its a Region 2 copy.

Otherwise I was going to buy it while I was in the US.

But its available in the UK now.

I bought mine from Vic Elford. Ordered on-line 24th March and rec'd 30th March 2004. Note from Anita Elford to explain there is no index - just play. Plus got a signed photo from Vic driving an Alfa 33TT/3 during the '72 season. 95 mins footage covering Sebring, Targa Florio, Nurburgring 1000kms, Le Mans and Watkins Glen. Fantastic film. Features interviews and behind the scenes of Brian Redman, Jacky Ickx and Helmut Marko.

Gut wrenching as well. You see first hand a'dumb struck' expression from Vic Elford when he discovers his old friend and rival Joakim Bonnier is dead in his Lola after its vaulted the crash barrier.

Buy it.

I have a DVD player in the car I bought for the wife. I pop LeMans or Speed Tribe in when I'm driving by myself. I can't see the video, but it sure makes driving a lot more fun. You think your driving down the Mulsanne instead of a lonely section of I-75.

Then you have to get the "c'etait une Rendezvous" DVD and listen to the Ferrari scream thru Paris at 6:00 in the morning.
