Chevron ?????? B21

In Australia late 2002 a car came up for auction called a Chevron B21 .
It definately was not , it came via Lodge Corner Agencies circa 1979 and was supposedly saved from being turned into a Skoda Spots Sedan .
The car had def. Chevron body panels on it one of which bore B.O.A.C. stickers from the 1000 kms. race
The car has a very professionately built monocque 2 seater tub , which was about 12 inches narrower than the Chevron body fitted to it via outriggers.
A bag tank was fitted behind the angled seat backs with provision for the cental gearchage mechanism to run through to the Hewland at rear .
However this gearchange cental unit had been reasonably crudely altered to now run off the usual place beside the drivers right arm.
The pedal assy. had been removed from some othercar and rivetted to the floor instead of being part of the front bulkhead as per std. practise .
The car has 10.0 in. front Chevron wheels and 12.0 in. genuine Minilites on the rear .

Any body recognise it.

The example I remember which was 'turned' into a saloon was a B19 for Jonathan Buncombe in 1975/6. It was literally a plastic Imp body placed over the Chevron tub.The B19 roll hoop could be seen through the back window of the body. It was dubbed 'The Chimp'. When the body and outriggers were removed, all it needed was the Chevron tail and nose sections and it was a pukka B19 again! This was one of the more imaginative versions of Supersaloons and stretching the regs to the full. Naturally being a sports racer with lightweight body, it was very quick and gave Gerry Marshall's Baby Bertha a run for its money.

Just looking thru' old threads, (quiet at work at the moment!) and I came across this one. The bit that interests me is the conversion of various "Racing Cars" into Supersaloons in the 70s and 80s when that category was really strong. Was the DFVW, based on the de Cadenet, the first of this ilk, or did some thingelse pre-date it?

As I remember by about 1980, almost all of the front running Supersaloons/Donington GTs were based on F2s or 2-litre sportscars, some F5000s too. Most had Skoda bodies, starting with the John Turner 5 litre car, and the Alec Poole 2 litre one. After that people like Derek Walker, Tony Sugden, Jim Price, and Walter Robertson followed all very fast, mostly beating the bigger engined cars. Anyone also recall the Renault 5, AC 3000, and various Esprits, all built around real racing cars.

Do we have any contributors who were involved in these projects ??
