I think this really is the end for Williams-BMW.
Will Sauber be rebranded as BMW next year? |

The report I just saw said that BMW have bought Peter Sauber's stake and will acquire Credit Suisse's stake over the coming three years.
BMW also says it "hopes to continue supplying Williams". |

The Reuters release says BMW will discuss their relationship with Williams but makes no mention of a customer deal as yet.

BMW acquires majority interest in Sauber
I note that it says "effective 1 January 2006" and the Factory will still exist as an individual company, affiliated to BMW. Also Peter Sauber will still advise on matters. |

People kicked up a big fuss when the news of the Jordan name disappearing from F1 was announced, in my opinion possibly losing the Sauber name is an even bigger blow as it has so much history attached to it.
I'm glad Peter Sauber managed to get the deal he always wanted by keeping the factory in Hinwil, good to hear he'll still be around aswell. |

Perhaps this will be the incentive Williams requires to finally get its act together and get back to the top in F1. Spanking the 'works' BMW team next season is the kind of objective Williams as a team would, IMHO, relish.

Well, it is still unclear whether they (Williams) will have a BMW engine next year or not. I thought their contract had several years to run, in which case surely there is some committment to supply Williams, or at least some hefty compensation?

Can't blame Peter for selling his team while it's still actually worth something. |

But I agree that it is sad to see PS relinquish his team after all he has been through against the big budgets of F1. As always he showed his class in looking out for his employees and made sure that they will retain their jobs. Any speculation as to who will be named the new team principle? |
