I think the intelligence of Tag's woman is rubbing off on him. I don't see a visit to the Republic in 2004.

South Africa? That's rather a long haul and I really don't see it happening.

South Africa?!? That doesn't exactly sound conservative from a spending perspective. They probably need 200k attendance over the weekend to make that one work.

And i'm hoping that the LA race is going to be at the speedway as they have cancelled the fontana race - right?

What would OWRS have to gain from going to S Africa?
Shore up the home front first, then worry about travelling the world. This info has to be bogus... |

Nicely put Snrub. It sounds silyl to consider this in teh enar future, although it's a big coutnry with a large potential audience, teh race would be too expensive to build up. Even Korea is risky, although teh series needs to race on 3 continents to be classed as a 'world' series - North America and Australasia are covered, so a third is needes - Korea or SA, not neccessarily both.

But what are the races? I've heard, that there will be 15 races and 22 cars for the 2004 season.

Hey I know they want a shootout in RSA, but the one they get will probably involve multiple guns.

Keep in mind that South Africa is largely a poor country. Of a country of 45M, ~15% of the population is white and the average income is 1/10th of US/Canada.

Kyalami used to get 100,000 crowds for F1.And CART was the -Indycar World Series-before it had a single round outside North America.

If you look at the demographics of the Mexico Races they wont make sense either, but there they are soldout events, in country that is stricken with poverty.

Well actually the demographics would should that that Mexico City is the most populated city in the world, and even if the country IS poor, with THAT many people in a small area, who are very passionate about their Nationality and its drivers, you are bound to have a mega-sized event.

The new owners will only take CART/OWRS where they know they will get a crowd and where the interests of the series won't be put at risk.
Next year there will be few long-haul flights. The only definete one appears to be Gold Coast Indy. Korea is iffy, Europe is off the calendar, Canada and Mexico are hardly considered long-haul. I'm still waiting for the long talked about but as yet seen Brazilian street race... |

From Champweb.net.......so take it for what it's worth.
Rumor: South Africa posted on 01-03 16:33 In conjunction with the recent rumor which has PK Racing testing a young South African driver in the near future, we are now hearing that the Champ Car World Series will be making a visit to South Africa as part of their 2004 tour, and may announce the race as early as next week. At this point in time, we are still unsure as to the significance of South Africa for the Champ Car sponsors, but speculation has Bernie Ecclestone involved with this event in some way, shape or form. |

Oh Great...
Now Bernie "Darth Vader" Eccelstone is somehow snaking his way back into this soap opera..... I think going to South Africa is just about as nuts as it was to go to Europe last year when CART was bleeding red ink.... Korea sounds almost as stupid...unless Hyundai is going to jump aboard for the "OWRS powered by Hyundai's blender motors on steroids" come to think of it, if Hyundai is to become involved, it is MORE stupid than South Africa.... Sorry to all for the sarcasm...but PG and Co. have really lost it if they are planning overseas races next season....that's no way to build long-term stability...you have to crawl before you can walk....and overseas races with the current financial state in your first year is like going from lying flat on your back to trying to run a marathon.... It mases no business sense...build on what you've go going that is already good, then look at new places and new venues down the road...especially overseas.... |

Northcutt, THANK YOU for saying so well, on what I spent an hour going back and forth trying to say at another site. They were even calling me a "concerned fan." :fake tears:
I dont expect everyone to have the same opinion of USA or NAFTA or The World, or when to crawl or when to run,,, heck Chocolate Chip or Rocky Road ice creams are difficult enough to choose,, but at least I know there is one other person with common sense. Have a great day Northcutt! You've made mine better. |
