IS it only me?
Was pondering as i sometimes do, and this popped into my head:
G Denyer got absolutely no air time at Bathurst from 10 because he was a Ch7 person, and as far as i can recall C McConville has had no airtime this year after it was announced he would be doing the Ch10 F1 gig (although this could also have something to do with his lack of speed at the moment). so the question is: what do the sponsors think when one of their drivers is working for another Ch as in above? they expect to get airtime for their investment. might not be that bad for SCAR or DJR, as they have another car with sponsorship plastered all over it, but if say Paul Radisich or Steve Owen got a gig on another Ch. their cars would never get exposure on the broadcaster. is there anything that the sponsors could ensure? should the TV Networks stop being childish and just show the car every now and then when it is isn't in an accident? |

I agree with you Axeman444. The TV networks should show the car every now and then and not just when its in an accident.

CM was featured in at least one interview on 7 in Pukekohe, I think it was during qualifying.

The amount of coverage Denyer has been getting in the Dev Races this year makes up for last year...

Networks concentrate on the big teams as they are generally up the front. If there's a godd battle down the field it ussually gets a litle airtime, but to be frank McKonky hasn't been setting the world on fire racewise lately so I doubt his lack of coverage has much to do with who he has a contract with.
Denyer gets enough publicity from 7 to more than make up for any lack of airtime he received from any other network. |

You'd have to prove it was deliberate, then the sponsors might have reason for litigation. Otherwise it'd only be claims.

As from this year Ch7 cannot be blamed for what cars get coverage. It is VESA that is providing the footage that is shown.

Was recently re-watching the 1981 James Hardie, during the Channel 7 telecast the commentators embraced and regularly mentioned the fact that the other 'major' networks were backing cars in the race (Channel 9 backing Bartlett's Camaro, Channel 10 backing Goss' Jaguar)

At least Denyer got publicity on CH 9 (A Current Affair) last night - maybe not for the right reason though!!

The teams probably pay for TV coverage on top of results. I imagine it is not co-incidence the same cars have the incar cameras by way of example.
This could well have been the way, back into the 1970's. Why should we expect it to be any different now? The sport has likely somewhere, at some level, found ways to be funded by little brown paper bags. And perhaps this post has been sanitised for a more favourable time slot... oops I mean... |
