Nurburgring Insurance on Public Days

OK Ladies and Gents,
Being Trackdayers, some of you must be having a play at the Nurburgring on the public days.
1. The German Authorities regard this as a Public Highway and German road traffic laws have to be obeyed -Fair enough - stick to the right of someone wants to overtake, only overtake on the left etc etc.
2. Many UK Insurance companies exclude the Nurburgring , either specificially or generaly in the small print as they do not regard it as a public highway (obviously a conflict here, but I can't sort that out)
3. Does anyone know of a UK insurance company that will (for a premium) specifically include the Nurburgring in it's cover. Track day companies won't touch it - being a public highway, there are third party liabilities.
Is every UK car on the Nurburgring uninsured ? I have raised this on other forums previously, only to get some smart arse claim that hey had full cover, only to dissappear off the forum when you ask which company it is with!
I believe there is no problem getting cover with a German registered car, but that's not really a practical proposition.

I'm heading back in june or July and I expect I'll end up hiring a car most of the time, maybe do 1 or 2 laps in my own.

After last years trip I e-mailed the ombudsman to ask for their view on if uk insurers could exclude a german road but they never replied

It is entirely possible to get insurance for a trackday at the Ring - the problem is cost. And the reason being that the "High Street" Insurers do not want the risk (as part of the road risks cover), and so the cover has to be obtained through specialist motorsport On track Insurers

More and more Insurers will include a day or two of track day cover under the normal car Insurance Policy - my clients tell me that this list includes Chubb, Norwich Union, Zurich, Adrian Flux to name a few. However, all of these policies do unfortunately exclude the Ring.

The cost of covering £50,000 worth of car at the Ring for a one off track day would be anything from £250 upwards (actually probably nearer £500). And I don't blame them because you have to sell alot of £500 policies to cover a £50,000 loss - on a risk that the general market don't want to insure.

I think the OP is referring to the tourist days at the ring, There are not that many actual trackdays, I expect the motorsport / trackday insurers would be able to cover the cars on the actual trackdays.

The big issue with tourist days is that all of your third party liability you'd have on the road is applicable, unlike trackdays there are no disclaimers.

The cost of replacing a car isn't what concerns them it's the third party medical cover. £50k worth of car is insignificant compared to the several million they'd end up paying out if your actions were deemed to be responsible for the death or serious injury of another road user.

It still amazes me that the UK insurance industry can decide that the ring isn't a public road when the government in charge of it say that it is.

I'm heading out there in June and expect I'll end up hiring a car to make sure I'm covered.

They must have the most abused hire cars in the world at the dealerships around the 'Ring, not a good business venture I would say
