tangoed sparky should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
marshals sponsership

I have been marshaling for several years now and I am ready for some new overals even my rac bgp ones are looking tired. So I have asked my boss at work if he would buy me some new overals and then he can have the company logo and web site details put on the back and arms ect. Does any body know if this is ok to do? As i was once told that you have to be carefull what you advertise as it can upset circuits. It sounds a bit far fetched to me but there might be some truth in it.

I don't think you should have any problem as long as its not advertising a sex shop or the like.
I am part of a team of a dozen marshals and our overalls are provided by mountune (who tune race engines) and they are advertised on our back. Our waterproofs are labelled TES (A railtrack safety company) and we,ve never had a problem.

Peter is only saying no sex shop's because he is trying to get sponsorship from them!

He, he, I can see the message now.

"Viagra. This marshal can keep upright all day without flagging."

Any better suggestions?
And to keep on topic, I've seen various marshals with sponsorship, and to my knowledge there's no problem with it. If you've promoting a banned substance and you're near a camera the Tv crews may ask you to cover it, but otherwise it's fine.

Fags and Beer are about the only taboos for sponsorship.

Damn!! Who the hell is going to sponsor us now?

sparky, check with your marshals' club to find out if they have a rule on this - otherwise, I don't see that it should be an issue. Circuits don't get to dictate what we wear unless they're paying for what we wear!

Really? Says who? If you decide to wear a Marlboro or Jack Daniels T-Shirt, you think anyone will stop you marshalling?

At the end of the day, these are our clothes, which we pay for.

Would you let the circuit dictate what you could wear if you were a driver or a member of a team? The only issue that I could see being a problem is if the marshals' club itself has any rules about advertising.

Otherwise, sd them! If they want you to remove your item of sponsored clothing, tell them how much you got for the sponsorship and that if they want to buy the space back, it'll cost them that plus 20%.

If they ask you to leave, leave. There's other circuits!

You may run into trouble with cigarette branding at a televised meeting, I have been asked to cover (not remove) branded gear. If its a blanket thing I think thats OK, as the teams are asked to do the same.If it is just a clash with the meeting/championship sponsors then stuff 'em! Incidently, I only wear branded stuff if it's given to me - I'm not going to pay to advertise someone else's business!

I used to have a set of overals sponsored by an ex employer and had no problem with the circuits. You should be aware however that if you are intending to marshal the GP, that you may be asked to cover the advertising. It's also worth remembering that anything you have emblazoned on the back or front of your overals would be covered by the FIA tabbard at a GP meeting.

I had forgot about the gp tabard covering up the back so I will bear that in mind. Thinking about it can vaguely durex sponsering an f1 team, williams I think. The viagra one would get a few laughs. Thanks again I will order my new overals now.

It should'nt be any problem look at all the JBT WASTE SERVICES and BRDA overalls at Brands. These were all sponsored.Hope this helps. The JBT overalls were an incentive scheme to recruit new marshals.Which has worked a treat.

Not a problem - sure all the good flaggers are women.......

(I shall now run and hide before I get to experience a whole new method of yellow flagging! )
