888 wheels
Are the new wheels that T8 used legal? I thought every team has to use the same OZ 5-spoke wheels?

As far as I know there has never been a single designated manufacturer for wheels, only minimum weight, size and material specified.

There is a ruling on the 17" x 10.5?? I think. Not sure about five spokes though....

I think you are allowed to use only the 5 spoke "mag" wheel from TEGA/OZ tyres and wheels.

They look tops
Maybe a sign of things to come, like the dish-like covers on rear wheels on fast tracks? (as used in BTCC etc) circa 1997 there was 5 and 6 spoke rims on different cars.. |

It’s actually OZ Racing and TEGA just supplies specs, and just shot down your own argument, TEGA Regulate them to be the same spec not the same look, besides even though the Ford and Holden rims look the same they are not the same.

I highly doubt the rim regulations would be so bulletproof given the apparent grey zone over suspension pickup points and geometry, as was seen today with Perkins rear anti roll bars...
They look fresh though, im glad that there were no teething issues with a relatively unproven design, although an organisation such as 888 should be able to develop a product to beyond acceptable levels. |

rule C12.2
minimum weight 9kgs maximum width 305mm maximum diameter 17" and there pretty much is the rules for a wheel number of spoke is not mentioned (so in theory a solid wheel is acceptable) |

I recall that when teams like DJR did have thier own wheels designs eons ago they had to make them themselves (due to the odd wheel size?) so maybe it's not really worthwhile. Especially if you must follow a min. weight, I think 888 are getting too much ford funding for their own good maybe if this is what they are spending it on

The look lighter and the diffrent style brings more cool air onto the brake pads, thus cooling them down more and means they last longer and means they could hae less pitstops than any other car. Also. it might have cooled down the wall of the tyre, thus having a longer lasting tyre

How do you back up this theory Greg? Each car has a mandatory pad change and significant ducting to take care of brake cooling anyway, I have never heard of anyone complaining of degrading a wall of a tire due to high temperatures (usually only from impact damage).

It wasn't that many years ago that a team rocked up with wheels that had a captive wheel nut. Wasn't long before everyone copied the idea. Was it HRT? Anyone remember what year and what race??

I think the first team to try that was FPR at Eastern creek maybe 2002. They were told they couldn't use them and then not to far down the track the rules were changed. HRT come up with the rim that had to have the gun attached to it which activated and deactivated the locking device. I think that was their clever way of getting around the rules at the time. Not many teams copied that design. At the time Kmart were the only other team to copy.

From memory it (captive nuts) was first used by HRT at the under lights 95 Brock Classic meeting, after which they were outlawed.
