Caterhams
Just seen this program is on BBC4 Thursday, One for the caterham fans.
19:00 Caterham: Survival Of The Fastest Simon Nearn faces a tricky problem when he takes charge of the small British sports car company founded by his father. Caterham Cars builds the Caterham Seven, the fastest accelerating production sports car in the world. But it was designed in the 1950s and is in danger of being left behind by the fast changing motor business. What will it take to secure their future? Evolution or a revolution? |

Why do you Brits have to constantly mock us Yanks with your superior programming? I'm sure the only thing related to cars on TV for us is a replay of the 1978 Daytona 500...

Thanks for that Nordic. The car I always wanted (for some thoroughly illogical reason).

On rare occasions (between NASCAR reruns,NASCAR talk shows, and ARCA racing that will air when the night racing at LM is going on this year) Speed Channel does show "Legends of Motorsport" -- which is a grewat series that documents a wide variety of racing subjects, including specific Le mans teams, years, etc...
Otherwise, I agree with you, danhx... I HAVE died..and gone to Hell |

Caterham is quite close to me, we see them around all the time, but I've never even tried to squeeze into one. Thanks for the tip, we get BBC4 so I will try to hog the TV from the old bat and 4 ankle biters. FG |

I would never buy one for the road as I would be a complete hooligan and be arrested driving sideways round the local roundabouts inside 2 hours! Last edited by Mal; 1 May 2003 at 06:27. |

Just for the record. It's not the fastest accelerating production sports car. The Gillet Vertigo has that record by going from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.266 seconds. The Caterham R500 does have the record for 0 to 100 back to 0 km/h.

An interesting programme, the highlights were Graham Nearn turning up 2 years into the project and saying "I don't think mid-engined cars look pretty", and the designer chap 'going for a breath of air' and not coming back.
I don't think that Caterham could ever replace the Seven. |

It sure was a strange insight into the way a small company works. The comment that mid engine cars look pretty is wierd when
you consider a) the Elise is one of the prettest cars b) the lotus 7 is not At least in the end simon nearn had the balls to stick with the 7 design. I don't think anyone buys a caterham a) for its style b) because its made by caterham most people buy because its bloody quick and cheap. Last edited by Nordic; 2 May 2003 at 11:53. |

maybee compared to the Fiat Multipla or those new renaults but in the history of cars the Elise will be lost, I think lotus havent made a real pretty car since the old elans. |

BUT, as you say, other than the few remaining programs that haven't recerived the Bill France treatment it's slim pickings. |
