2014 Grand Prix of Kansas (June 6-7)
In other news, the Tudor SportsCar Championship is racing at Kansas Speedway this weekend.
The Grand Prix of Kansas features a combined grid of the Prototype Challenge and Prototype Lites classes (10 and 19 respectively.) The Conti Challenge is supporting the event with 22 GS and 30 ST entries. |

Not super excited to be honest. If I lived next to the track I would probably go but I guess I'll just listen to the mrn feed or catch the stream.

This may be one of the most uninspired track layouts I've ever seen, which is no small accomplishment considering how many awful roval and street layouts there are around the world.
The track map is basically the oval, two sharp turns and a hairpin. |

As much as the track sucks, I'd still watch the Conti race if it was possible.
Hard for me to care much less about the LMPC race though. |

Perhaps they should just run the oval
It's to bad this the only track in my state that IMSA decided to run, they could have ran Heartland Park |

Utterly amazing that there's no broadcast of any sorts. Amateur, any rural high schools here in Nebraska stream sporting events.

Earlier this year not even imsa.com listed this race in their calendar (ok, it was a tv schedule calendar).

As far as I am concerned, they are not running this race. No offense to the six folks from Kansas who show up thinking it is a tractor pull, but for me this whole race hovers between being a figment and an insult.
If the series respects its own events so little, why should the rest of the world give a shot? |

I am pretty sure it is contractual between the recently constructed Kansas Speedway which recently built the road track (to lure Rolex, I believe) and NASCAR—the series has to race there.
Also, since the series has to split grids to fit all the cars on some track somewhere, this provides a neat way to fill out the PC schedule-—contractual obligations to those team owners for a certain number of races (You know the sponsors couldn't be more excited.) I doubt we will see this track run anything except local series ever again—a great investment for the Speedway's owners. |

BLJ, the Turn 2/3 esse is kind of nice, but yeah, the layout as a whole is about as unimaginative and uninteresting as you could conceive of. The one thing I will give them credit for is making an end-run around the FIA's regulations. If they had used the Turn 1-2 banking, they would have been required to put in a chicane before oval Turn 3, but since they only use the flat(ter) apron, they don't have to muck up the course in that way.
Rcz, I don't know about Heartland Park. Yes, IMSA ran there with the GTPs in 1989-91, but it was pretty slow and tight for a permanent circuit. I do know about the changes they made in 2007 to Turns 1 and 2, as well as the faster entry to the left/right/left on the back side of the course. Even so, I'm just not sure how good the racing would really be. If I was thinking of a venue here in the middle of the country to upgrade and run the series at, I'd look at High Plains Raceway east of Denver on I-70. |

So will this go down as the lowest number of posts ever in a Ten Tenths individual race thread?

So the Lites were is a separate race from the PC cars? I thought they were going to be combined? (admittedly paid no attention at all beyond being puzzled about a race in Kansas at all-no offense meant to the State or population thereof)

Declan Brennan says there may have been 500 people at most there. Ridiculous.

I looked at the IMSA site to see something/anything, and the top photo was what looked like twenty people walking on a covered bridge. I assume into or over the track. It looked rather pathetic, and I can't believe they can't have come up with another image. If this race was put together to satisfy a contract obligation, I am guessing the contract didn't specify much at all in the way of measurable performance.
Don't intend to go down the bashing road as there are plenty of other threads doing that, but this event doesn't look like it generated any additional confidence in the sanctioning body. |
