10 Best Drivers Since 1994?
Who do you think are the ten best drivers in F1 since 1994 (excluding Senna)? I'd say...
1. Michael Schumacher - an obvious choice 2. Mika Hakkinen - more championships then all bar MS in this period 3. Jacques Villeneuve - shame he wasted away at BAR from '99 onwards 4. Kimi Raikkonen - should have won 4 races by now, very quick 5. Fernando Alonso - will probably be WDC someday, very fast 6. Damon Hill - not blindingly fast, but a WDC winner 7. Juan Montoya - hasn't destroyed Ralf, but he's very ballsy 8. Jean Alesi - well he got to win one race at least 9. Giancarlo Fisichella - finally got the reward 10. David Coulthard - don't laugh, has raced wheel to wheel with TGF |

Top ten is a too large standings, for the talent here available; top five would have fitted more.
About period 1984-1993, well, it would have even been way easier to find ten real great drivers! Last edited by climb; 28 Jul 2003 at 12:22. |

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed.

2. Mika Hakkinen. Possibly the FASTEST F1 driver since Senna. 3. Giancarlo Fisichella. If only Flavio had kept him..... 4. Damon Hill. [  ]5. Kimi Raikkonen. Expect him to rise. 6. Fernando Alonso. Ditto! 7. Juan Montoya. Reminds me of Mansell without the whining. Pure entertainment. 8. Jean Alesi. Like Montoya, but slightly less so.... 9. Jacques Villeneuve. Even in his champion year, he was no Fangio... 10. David Coulthard. I'm no fan, but he has won 13 GPs... |

Lets not forget he was probably the feature driver of the mid-90s after Schuey. He outqualified JV 13-3 in 96, put an Arrows in the position to win, won Jordan's first race. Was a great wet-weather driver (Suzuka 94, Brazil 96, Spa 98) and was a great car developer. Didn't have the raw speed/talent of Hakkinen or TGF, but was as quick as anyone else. |

Schumacher M Pablo Hakkinen Fisichella Barrichello << When he's on it, RB is class. But he's so damn PATCHY. If he can get consistant, he'd challange MS. But not before. Jacques Hill Alesi Alonso Berger Irvine Raikkonen/Alonso/Webber << So close. Ask again in twelve months, may replace Irvine and Berger. |

I'll give you my 10, in no specific order except the order which I came up with them.
Michael Schumacher (the best, regardless of your opinion of him) Mika Hakkinen (fastest driver on the list, in my opinion) Damon Hill (my favorite in the mid-90s) Heinz-Herald Frentzen (he was a championship contender in a Jordan!) Jacques Villeneuve (his days at BAR have kept him from greatness) Gerhard Berger (one of the most underrated drivers ever, who played several roles successfully) Jean Alesi (much better driver than the stats indicate) David Coulthard (greatest non-champion ever, the stats say, though Moss is much better) Juan-Pablo Montoya (the mold of a champ, but still rough around the edges) Eddie Irvine (the only driver better than Schumacher, at least that's what he says) I think it's too early to put Raikkonen or Alonso in this list, though Kimi's about even with Jean Alesi. |

Many more people than expected have put my namesake in I see
.Here's my list, based on driver ability when they were at their best not out right results. 1. Schu - dang it, he is good, even if I don't like the way he's done it. 2. Villeneuve - on his day and when he's motivated by the chance of a win he can beat anyone On his way down though. 3. Hill - far better than a lot of people give him credit for. Started to late to have true success but ran Schu closer than many have managed since. 4. Juan Pablo Montoya - the Mansell of the modern age. This is rating who the best drivers are right? Juan belongs at least here (but he'll go up in time, as he learns to use setup time more effectively). 5. Hakkinen - Quick yes, exciting no, needed the best car and a clear track to win (Spa 2000 aside). 6. Kimi - almost as quick as Hakkinen already, makes far more mistakes than, say, Montoya, but they are not picked up. Experiance will bring yet more pace and iron out the errors. 7. Jean Alesi - on his day, the trouble was he wasn't there often enough 8. Ralf - until a few weeks ago he wouldn't have even made the list. It's taken him a damn long time but he seems to be getting there, just pass someone will you! 9. Alonso - is showing worrying signs of being another of the Schumacher mould (not in a good way). If he grows out of his over aggressiveness and utilises his natural speed he'll shine. 10. Berger - Senna made him look silly, but who aside from Prost didn't in his company? A quicker, more competant, less whiney, more racey version of DC. (Honourable mention - Mark Webber - has proved nothing so far but there is something there, will be interesting to see how he gets on next to a more experianced team mate (not Wilson)) |
