2013 BSB...
I love this time of year as the grids get signed up for each championship!
After the Motorcycle Show in Birmingham last week the line up for British Superbikes is taking shape. Riders and bikes that are confirmed so far: Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki - Shane Byrne, Keith Farmer Milwaukee Yamaha Racing - James Ellison, Josh Waters Tyco TAS Suzuki - Josh Brookes, PJ Jacobson Splitlath Redmond Racing (Aprilia) - Jakub Smrz, Mark Aitchison Honda Racing - ?, ? Buildbase BMW - James Westmoreland, Jon Kirkham GBmoto Racing (Honda) - Peter Hickman, ? Pr1mo Bournemouth Kawasaki - Chris Walker, Danny Buchan Quattro Plant Kawasaki - Karl Harris, ? It's already looking good for next year, nice to see James Ellison back, after the treatment he got in MotoGP I hope he goes really well this year. It's a nice looking bike too, check out http://www.milwaukeeyamaha.com/ |

Interesting that someone from Kawasaki UK seems to think Bournemouth Kwak are the official Kawasaki team in BSB!!
I would have thought the chamopin might be the best Kawasaki team! Surely a bit pathetic of Kawasaki to not back Birds team, maybe his WSB exploits and the drug thing (unproved of course) have him blacklisted! |

Good to see Josh Waters get out of Oz & get a ride in BSB - interesting that Josh Brookes is doing IOM TT in 2013 too
Looking forward to watching the series on Eurosport... |

I have to admit I don't know much about Josh Waters, how do you expect him to go? Has he done any racing outside of Australia?
PJ Jacobsen is another rider I know nothing about, he turned up in British Supersport and Superstock 1000 at the end of the season and went very well so will be interesting to see him on a Superbike. |

PJ is a top talent, I think he could even win the odd round on tracks he knows, depends how he gets on with tyres
Waters is a good rider, Yosh rider in WSB before they ran out of money, but I think its a big step up. totally unprovne in this series an d doesnt know the tracks. |

Think Waters will be doing well if he finishes top 10 in the championship. He needs to race o/s - road racing in Oz is f'ed right up!

Does the travel make a national racing in Australia much more expensive? I spent 8 months out there and it's a big old country! The costs of getting bikes from one side to the other compared with popping up the motorway to Donnington must be very high?? You must almost need World Superbike travel budgets.....

Top teams now pretty much complete with Samsung Honda's line-up announced today: Ryuichi Kiyonari and Alex Lowes.
Let's hope we don't see the Kiyonari of 2011 but if he's on form it will be a good battle with Byrne. If Lowes can carry on as he did at the end of the year he could be a contender too. All in all, it's looking good for 2013! |

Aus Superbikes were at their peak in the early 90's with guys like Corser, Gobert, Goddrad, Bayliss coming thru and befoire that Mageee, Dowson and Doohan and Phillis.
They would ride foir a manufacturer in Aus then maybe All Japan then onto a factory team in GP. Since the factories left all the riders just come to he UK, or get into WSS/BK. Staggeringly unimaginative of Honda to choose Kiyo, he was patehtic in 2011, embarrassing to see. Not quite as bad as Aoyama but close for someone who won so easily ion the past, he wont want to be back in the UK either imagine. |

On recent form you would think Lowes would give Kiyo a whipping - dont agree with that signing & if like you say he wont want to be back in the UK, why would he go/they send him there?
The Aussies only went to Japan when they ran the 500cc championship. Since the series went SBK they havent been back, the BSB is there series of choice (AMA doesnt get a look in either)... |

I'm half looking forward to Brands this weekend, I say half because so far this year I've been frozen at work(building trade) and frozen at the few other motor racing events attended recently! Thruxton last Saturday for the HSCC, Brands on Sunday for the BTCC and Thundersports 3 weeks ago at Brands all of which were bl...dy freezing

Farmer may have showed good pace but was involved in a nasty incident that took out Dan Linfoot, not sure baout blames etc, but few riders were making comments about the move
Kiyo was not really on it, but Ellison rode beautifully in race two and Shakey was about to make a move but put it right off as James turned in a bit early Supersport was awesome, both races epic as usual |

Is there any legs to the comments that Brookes keeps making when intereviewd at Brands and on twitter about the legality of the bikes beating him?

Brookes is just trying to be a wind up merchant
I am sure if TAS thought there was anything in it they would be protesting, the team boss ahs been asked about it a few times now and totaly scoffed. Brookes is a strange character, he often does some weird stuff apparently, so I would think nothing of it until they protest |

Couldn't the same thing be said of the bike? I have a feeling Lowes may find himself with a bucket full of 3rd places because no matter how hard he goes if all things remain equal, he is going to finish third behind the lead Kawasaki Yamaha.
Also chunder, I remember you rating Farmer quite highly but he seems to me to be trying a bit too hard? Kinda like Lowes in previous seasons i.e. needing to temper his speed with a bit of patience and concentration. Going back to Brands, I too wondered what Brookes was alluding to. Did anyone manage to catch any Eurosport highlights of that weekend which included coverage of the supersport races cos I couldn't? The stuff I recorded only had the two superbike races, no mention of supersport whatsoever, not even in the BSB Extra program I don't think. I couldn't really get into the Thruxton races for some reason, maybe something to do with the editing of the Eurosport highlights program or the just me being a miserable git. Glad to see Easton has a ride this year in Supersport, I'm a fan and I was a tad concerned for his career what with the serious injuries, long recovery periods and general form last year.
