Better Hungaroring

Can anybody out there think of any edits to the Hungaroring that would make it more interesting? Please?

Why isn't there passing at the Hungaroring? I don't think the problem is necessarily the track itself. There aren't enough long straights and heavy braking zones, sure, but the other than that the track design is flowing and fun to drive. It isn't a Tilke layout, flat and full of tight-radius flickety corners and hairpins; there is variety in the corners and elevation. Formula 1 has trouble passing there, but everyone from Monza to Monaco is in the same boat, because contemporary Grand Prix cars, with their high-turbulence aero and on-the-dime braking control, just aren't very conductive to passing.

I'd be more inclined to say that the Hungaroring's bad reputation stems from the fact that Hungarian motorsport begins and ends with the Grand Prix weekend. While Silverstone might stink for Formula 1, it's still puts on a great show when the BTCC visits. Catalunya doesn't stir the imagination during the Spanish Grand Prix, but when MotoGP comes around the atmosphere on and off the track is electric. The Nurburgring is a bore, but connect it with the Nordschleife for the 24 Hours...Wow!

For many other current F1 venues, we can give them the benefit of the doubt, as they are suitable hosts for the racing world outside the Ecclesphere. In Hungary, the domestic racing scene is virtually nonexistant. There is no HTCC or Hungarian Superbike or domestic formula ladder that races at the Hungaroring throughout the year. The lack of a state-level foundation, as well as the absence of a national automobile or bike manufacturer, keeps other international series from paying a visit. So, there's nothing else to judge the circuit on. Put some touring cars or prototypes on the track, and they might very well pass and repass each other. Our population sample might just be a little too small to say for sure whether the track is as bad as Formula 1 makes it out to be.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the alledged boring Hungaroring gave us pretty good races the past few years. And while one could easily change it, I don't think it would do the track any good.

Oh, and try a search on 'Hungaroring' in this sub-forum. We've gone through this stuff quite a number of times.
