Test Day Thread (Sunday 2nd June)
I thought we ought to have a thread for today's test.

hope to see some better timelaps during the afternoon session.... quite laughable to make a test where all cars run about 7-8 seconds slower than the usual pace.

The performances aren't up to last year peformanes. Is it due to the track or just sand bagging?

Quite weird, a few years ago this thread would have had loads of replies, but this year barely any. Are people losing interest in the event?

Everything has been a lot quieter, I can’t quite put my finger on why but it’s probably for a few reasons, I used to be glued to the timing screens during the time when LMP1 was at its peak 3/4 years ago but when it’s a question of which of two cars from the same team will be quickest and by how much people will quickly lose interest |

I think has has a lot to do with it. Even watching a timing screen and listening to RLM, it isn't the same as seeing the action on track. |

Most discussion has moved to social media and phone apps. We're quite old school here with our forums!

I'm following the event as usual, while doing other things. There isn't much to say, cars are going slower even than in test day of last year.
Maximum speed in the morning test was really slow, lots of P1 going slower than the P2. So, it doesn't have much sense to follow. What happened to Ruberti and the ByKolles? It was a stop or a crash? |

In addition to limited coverage and some other things mentioned here, I think it's partly because there's not much 'new' to look at.
No new cars or updates to the LMP1s over the winter, except for the full low df kit in Rebellion Oreca and the Zytek engine change to CLM. But those are very minor things, not the "great unknows" we had every year for the last X years. We know what the cars and teams are capable of. All LMP2s are spec cars with nothing new in them. And GTEs will get re-bopped 5 times before race day even begins so the times mean nothing, even if they weren't sandbagging which they obviously are. |

Have there been any updates to the AER engine since Le Mans last year? Or any changes to the BR1 low drag aero? Because they are 10 km/h up on last year through the speed trap. 350 km/h!
Also, I'm quite disappointed by the new Rebellion aero. It has gained them only ~7 km/h while at the same time being around 6 tenths slower through the Porsche Curves alone. Mind you, all the classes are a couple of seconds off last year. Aaarrrgghhh. Testing. What does it all mean? |

Well, the best of this test is the parity between Rebellion and SMP, but who knows how real are these lap times. Toyota is 2 seconds ahead as always. DragonSpeed and Bykolles are slow and have problems half of the time, they made very few laps.
Not much to comment. I miss the Ginettas. |

Buemi first into the 3:19s - 3.:19.440, four tenths away from last year's fastest time.

Rebellion has done 3:19.680 last year duting the test.
This year, they don't have the flow meter, a better aero and a year of experience with the car and they are running at 3:22.232. They must sandbag big time otherwise, I do not understand... |

Only thing I can think is the track isn't as good as last year plus its pretty hot out 31.1 C or 87.8 F which would slow the cars down some.

Who was in the RLM booth before Ben Keating? Whoever it was mentioned that the track was very dusty, and they're still blowing the dust away at this stage, so it definitely is not as good as it was last year.

Speaking of Keating, I'm surprised the Ford GT is so far off in AM trim. Could be the team learning the car still or the BOP is off for it.
