US GP Indianapolis - Race
I think Bridgestone and Ferrari have this won, their tyres look to be the best this year, Michelin have gone too conservative.
Lets see what the race brings... |

The gap from Ferrari to Renault seems to be due to more than tires. Rubens outqualified Alonso, JV was only three hundreths slower than Alonso, and Button was within a tenth of Alonso. This versus a driver who had come into the race having won five consecutive poles.

Yes.
Well I also remember people saying Ferrari would be unstoppable after the European GP, so let's not get carried away. |

Michael looks odds on favorite for the win, which is needed for the championship. Massa may have the 2nd best car tomorrow, but he can still find a way to chuck it all away, so it should still be competitve for the podium places. It would be great to see Jacques and BMW get a podium here, they look stong, but Im sure Alonso and Kimi will be up at the sharp end of the grid as well. Great grid though, BMW well up, Scot Speed in 13th. Bad luck for Juan to miss out on the last session.

Fingers crossed that Massa takes the first 10 cars out leaving Juan Pablo to win |

Ron Dennis doesn't believe Michelin is playing it conservative at Indy:

If Michelin decide to play it safe at Indy, it's fully understandable. Their reputation took a big hit last year, something which i doubt even winning the WDC last year managed to put right.
I wouldn't write it in that Ferrari/Bridgestone have the race won... yet. Sure, the car/tyre looks quick, but i also believe that MS's immediate rivals (Alonso and Kimi are both running heavy). Alonso may be starting 5th, but surely it isn't a concern. I'm pretty sure Alonso would be up to 3rd at the end of the first lap, with Kimi slowly making his way back up. Hopefully, Ferrari and MS can pull something out of the bag and win, while Alonso at least get his first bit of bad luck perhaps, just to keep the championship a tad closer. I still believe Michelin has a strong tyre, considering that 7 out of the top 10 cars are running Michelins. |

Kimi is definitely running heavy, but Alonso and Renault's relative lack of pace is about what was expected, so they may be on similar fuel to Michael. This is a real chance for Michael to pull 4 or 5 points back on Fernando, which would help keep the championship alive.

A safety car during the race could see things turned back in Renault and Mclaren's favour.
Watch for Fisi at the run down to the first corner after the lights. He could be the spoiler, fuelled light to get to the first corner before the Ferrari's and then hold them up in the twisty bits. How he will hold them up on the straights i have no idea, maybe he'll be quicker in the infield. |

Well, if you're faster at the twisty bits, then you're bound to be faster on corner exits and achieve higher straightline speeds, so it would be a good move if Fisi is light on fuel to jump ahead and hold up the others.

Ferrari always go well here. I suspect it is largely a tyre thing, but Ferrari are never off the pace at Indy.

We're gonna have to concede a race to Ferrari this weekend, I think.

As much as I dislike Ferrari's methods, I wouldn't begrudge them a race win or two, it makes for a balanced championship.

Nico was sent to the back of the grid for missing a weigh bridge - would this had happened if he had been higher up the grid? ie is it a ten place penalty?
Is this the first time they have had to do this? Has anyone missed a weigh bridge before? |

It wouldn't surprise me for a second if Schumacher won, but as for Massa finishing second, I'm not so sure. I'd be more inclinded to think he might just take someone out.
