Michael Schumacher and race finishes
How long can Michael Schumacher go in GP's without failing to finish because his car has a mechanical failure?
I think the last time this happened was Germany 2001. |

Is it my imagination or are F1 cars more reliable than they used to be? Michael isn't the only driver without a retirement due to mechanical failure in a race in 2003. Ralf hasn't had any either...

I'd say that his damaged sidepod at Höckenheim was a mechanical failure...

He did! But I would call that more accidental damage than mechanical failure ASCII.

Remember 1996, when there were no Ferraris on lap 6... OK, who can come up with this stat: Schumacher vs Barrichello mechanical failures since 2000! Will be interesting...

It would! I'm sure someone here has the info!
Oh, and I do hope that if Monty or Kimi beat Schuey this year that they do it by beating him on the track. I don't really want any of them retiring - I want a good fight to the finish, and that includes Michael. Do see your point, though I also reckon xdt is right about cars generally being more reliable now anyway. |

Rubens - Schumi is 6-0 on mechanical failures.
But that's just from 2002-2003, can't seem to find accurate stats from 2001-2000... I'm not going to pay for stats... Last edited by ASCII Man; 6 Sep 2003 at 10:59. |

2000: Rubens broke down at Silverstone, Brazil, ran out of fuel at Belgium. Michael broke down at Monaco and France.
2001: Michael broke down at Imola and Hockenheim. Rubens car broke at Spain, the TC failed at Canada, and he retired at Indianapolis. That's just off the top of my head so I'm sure I've missed some. |

Was it TC failing at Canada? I thought it was due to hitting the wall after taking avasive action to JPM's car in the barrier?

Yes, but it had failed earlier in the race exiting the harpin and didn't come back. So that's a failure.

Yes, MS's last mechanical retirement is Germany 2001.
Since then Rubens has retired: - USA 2001, engine - Malaysia 2002, engine - Brazil 2002, hydraulics - Spain 2002, gearbox - France 2002, ignition - Brazil 2003, out of fuel - Hungary 2003, suspension and 3 times because of a crash (Oz 2002&2003, Germany 2003) What a difference. But I predict he will retire due to mechanical problem in 2004. This will happen in some race he is not fighting for the win, even for the podium... Last edited by Bleu; 6 Sep 2003 at 18:04. |

Would the tyre failure at Hockenheim this year be worth considering as a mechanical failure?

Agh, you've jinxed it! It won't happen now! Seriously, MS will DNF when you least expect him too. Like Brazil this year in the rain for example. |

Thats what I was thinking but then again its a tyre supplier failure not strictly anything to do with Ferrari...directly. Sort of. I think.
