Mark Webber - Best of the Rest!
With his 2 points at Monza, Mark Webber has all but sewn up the "Best of the rest" award for drivers outside the top 4 teams. (Unless Button scores 5 points in last 2 races)
Well done Mark. I admit I was one who doubted you would even make it to F1, nevermind cut it in the big league, but you have been outstanding & have gotten the best out of ordinary cars for 2 years running. Who knows what you could do in a decent car! Previous winners- (note: chosen from teams that didn't win a race) 2002 - Jensen Button-Renault (3 teams won races) 2001 - Nick Heidfeld-Sauber (3 teams) 2000 - Ralf Schumacher-Williams (2 teams) 1999 - Ralf Schumacher-Williams (3 teams) 1998 - Jacques Villeneuve-Williams (3 teams) 1997 - Giancarlo Fisichella-Jordan (4 teams) 1996 - Jean Alesi-Benetton (3 teams) 1995 - Mika Hakkinen-McLaren (3 teams) 1994 - Mika Hakkinen-McLaren (3 teams) 1993 - Jean Alesi-Ferrari (3 teams) 1992 - Jean Alesi-Ferrari (3 teams) 1991 - Alain Prost-Ferrari (3 teams) 1990 - Jean Alesi-Ferrari (4 teams) Apart from "Lucky" wins like Fisi (03), Herbert (99) & Panis (96) none of these teams had a chance of winning a race. Cheers! |

Everybody is talking about Jacques getting a drive at Williams and JPM getting a drive at McLaren, and a zillion drivers going to Ferrari if one of teh current drivers leave. Yes!! I'd like to see Mark in one of those teams because we are talking about an attack on the championship if that happened.
Still, when you think about it, getting points at Jaguar is better than flogging around at the back of the field in a Minardi. |

Good list! I'd like to see it all the way back to 1950, that'd be fantastic. Anyway, good to see Webber looking likely to join such a noble list of stars.

Thank god Australia has a drive in F1, and who better than Mark.
Can anybody really remember a largish mistake he has made in F1? |

Brazil is the only one which comes straight to mind, and he was in good company - Michael, Montoya and Alonso all ahd race-ending incidents there.

Mark Webber belongs to this list.
He did show some great stuff in the Jaguar this year and already has 17 points. |

It's great to see Webber get the credit he deserves, he's finally getting to display the talent Australians have always known he possessed.

I hope he doesn't turn into another Fisico... always trouncing his teammates, generally held in high regard, but never gets the machinery under him to actually compete... it would be a shame if that happened to Webber, too...

I am particularly impressed by Webber, who has blown his team mates away while he's been at Jaguar. But Jaguar's approach to management of the 2nd driver leaves a lot to be desired IMHO.

No surprise that he's best of the rest. Some of us have been saying how good he is for the past three years but no-one believed us.
Now the proof is in the pudding. |

Jaguar is going to need to take more than one step forward to be really competitive with the top 4, Mark must not get discouraged by poor results, being tied up on a relatively long term deal. But on the other hand, contracts don't mean a whole lot in F1, as various GP alumni will attest.

This list is now starting to lose its cred. Too many teams won races back then. That guy in 1999/2000 wasn't bad eh? |

Jacques Laffite drove for LIGIER in 1985/86.
And he would have finished best of the rest in 1986 had he not had his legs broken at Brands Hatch. |
