Been having a think about this one (i think too much) but should it still be there at Indy? I was watching a few in car cameras from some videos of the past few years, and you can notice it is a bit of bump when going at 230mph. You can hear the engines have a bit of a flutter when they go over the bricks. Now remember back to 1998 (pretty sure that was the year) when Tony Stewart blew up down the front straight. If you look closely at the in car footage it happens right on the start finish line.
Coincidence or am i crazy?? |

Those bricks will pay homage to the past until someone realizes they're a danger to a modern day Indy or F-1 car. Nascar never even noticed them.(ever seen Darlington ?)

Why shouldn't they get rid of the yard of bricks? Tradition means nothing to Little Lord Tony.

through the years, as the elevation of the asphalt rose around the 'yard of bricks' it created a depression. But with the recent re-pavements they have literally ground down the surface of the track so that the asphalt is flush with the bricks, so there is no 'bump', but just the sound of the tires crossing the bricks......much like your car on the highway as it crosses an expansion joint in a bridge.

I'm still not convinced, Stewarts blow was a little bit too much of a coincidence for my liking.
It would be good if they could keep them in the museum or something. If it rained for the F1 race, would they be at all slippery? |

Anyone see the Brazilian Grand Prix?
For F1 cars bricks will not be a problem. |
