well it is not the one I was testing in I am sure- this was an All Oval BMW powered series car to be a 'junior' league to the IRL, it was a 1200cc BMW motorcycle engine openwheel car fun fast and good for small ovals but it had another name attached to it, which was owned by the guy who tarted it and Yada yada yada it is defunct

Uhm, WTF? I've never heard a damn thing about a Formula BMW connection with the IRL.
Formula BMW is just a small-bore "first winged" formula, like Formula Renault or FF2000. I couldn't find technical regs, but here's a photo: http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.c.../311850979.jpg |

The new formula BMW car is a beautiful machine from an engineering point of view and also for a driver. It produce about 140 hp (great engine noise), has a hewland FTR 200 sequential gearbox (same as F3), weighs app 450 kg, has a carbon fiber tub that meets all F3 safety regs, front and rear double wishbone suspension, 2d data recording and is beautifully built. It produces similar downforce to that of a formula Renault but has about 40hp less.
BMW went out of there way to produce the ultimate car to teach young drivers from karts and totally prepare them for F3 and all the fundamentals about setup that can be switched straight to F3. The car is also amazing safe and includes wheel tethers (F1 style), rear crash box (F1 style) and an extrication seat for emergencies. Currently the strongest series is run in Germany which has many great drivers and many great teams from Euro F3. There is also a series in Asia that is quite strong (20 cars) and runs throughout Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, china and the final at Macau. It is also heavily promoted by BMW motorsport and F1 team personal constantly train the drivers through the BMW school program that runs at each race meeting and tests (jorg muller is the official instructor). There is also a good scholarship system that assist drivers with funding, training and drivers get to associate with the F1 team at some events. And if they are good enough BMW supports them into F3.
