2024 Snetterton Stages

Initial selection from yesterday; lots more to work through. Focus on the Chris West 306 Maxi for a possible PistonClick article. Good to see the car back out.

That 306 is an absolute weapon isn't it? He used it a Goodwood back in December as a "shakedown", presumably Snetterton was more of the same ahead of the asphalt championship - I think that's the focus this year for Chris? I watched some of the Special Stage coverage and they mentioned that he was driving with an injured knee following a crash testing Dan Corners car on the road between Christmas and new year.

I've not been to Snetterton to watch a rally - what's the viewing like? Are there many areas you can get shots of the cars not on the actual circuit?

Yes, I didn't go there but they use a section on the infield at the Bombhole / Coram end of the circuit. Plus they do a bit in and around the paddock. No access round the outside from Bombhole this time. It's not the Belgian Rally Championship but its a lot closer to home

Another nice set. I caught the tail end of the live coverage yesterday and wondered what the opportunities were like for photos.

Goes without saying, but love the 306!

flatlandsman has been held in scrutiny for further testing
It is not a great place to watch, mainly using the track and the odd bit of infield, I have seen pics of a small loose section which is nice, but it is now a shame for me the R5's have taken over, Westy was fairly quick everywhere in that car a few years ago, probably the favourite at most venues.. He was amazing at Donington in the wet a few years ago.

And it is far form a 306 I think, it uses a version of a Millington i think!!

It is what it is for photos - it's a modern race track but thankfully with little in the way of fences (although it looks like some new fence on the outside of Coram) and a lot closer to Milton Keynes than Yorkshire or Wales. Wasn't originally going to go to the paddock area but the head on shots there probably give as good a sense of speed as any.
306 engine quoted as Smith & Jones in the past.

I haven't been to Snetterton for a few years, but last time I went there still seemed to be quite a few areas with low fences. Sounds like you still have a few usable spots there.
