WRC Rally Australia

Solberg leads in Australia as just about everyone else has trouble of some sort! Gronholm rolled, then got stuck on a tree stump and lost 10 minutes. Atkinson went off and set fire to the scenery causing stage 6 to be cancelled. Sordo, Wilson and Henning Solberg have also gone out for various reasons. Certainly eventful so far

Top ten after SS7:

Solberg
Hirvonen
Pons
Stohl
Herridge
Baldacci
Latvala
Arai
Ligato
Teiskonen

GolddustMini should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
after ss9 gronholm back on the pace but 12mins adrift, mikko is now leading, solberg second.

looks like it could be an intresting rally, however it looks like with that roll, the slim chance of the drivers title ebbed away from marcus.

That roll could prove very expensive, Gronholm needed a big haul of points here to put some pressure on Loeb - doesn't look like it's going to happen now. I guess some of the retirees will be rejoining under super rally rules tomorrow?

id guess sordo and wilson will be back in there tomorrow

gronholm is down in 18th place so a points finish for him is looking tricky as the top 8 are over 6mins ahead of him.

gronholm needs a win and 2 second places to win the championship IF loeb doesnt score points in any of the remaining rallys this year (seb is 15 points ahead with 30 points possible), so chances are very very slim now!

Well, I suppose we better congratulate Mikko on his first win and Sebastien on his third world title!

The final top ten:

1. Mikko Hirvonen, Finland, Ford, 3 hours, 15 minutes, 11.8 seconds
2. Petter Solberg, Norway, Subaru, 3:15.48.9
3. Manfred Stohl, Austria, Peugeot, 3:19.10.4
4. Xavier Pons, Spain, Citroen, 3:19.57.2
5. Marcus Gronholm, Finland, Ford, 3:27.35.6
6. Jari-Matti Latvala, Finland, Ford, 3:32.21.0
7. Mirco Baldacci, San Marino, Mitsubishi, 3:32.54.7
8. Dean Herridge, Australia, Subaru, 3:33.33.8
9. Sebastien Beltran, Argentina, Mitsubishi, 3:41.35.3
10. Chris Atkinson, Australia, Subaru, 3:42.17.3

Hirvonens first win, a good result for Solberg and a good comeback drive up to fifth for Gronholm (needed to be at least 4th though to keep the title chase alive).

Quite an effort yes, from 6th to 9th all Group N cars. Of course WRC guys had problems, but still, great driving.
