JV to CART?
Further to the post on the options Jacques Villeneuve has if he doesn't retain his driver with BAR this year, where will he go?

Well he did win the Indy 500 in 95, so maybe he'll be off to the IRL????

Yes but he's been very clear, earlier this season, that he'll never go to IRL; he talked about technical reason, but the real point is that he could never find in IRL such an huge salary IMHO.

I would think the Penske salary is quite high?
I doubt he could get at drive there though! |

Jacques has been pretty "vocal" a number of times about the IRL and the effect it's had on open-wheel racing in north America. He's not a fan and it's not because they won't pay him lots of money.
I think that he's still most likely to be driving for BAR next year. The only people pushing for Sato are apparently Honda, for which they'd have to increase their sponsorship dollars given a reduction in BAT's. Also, despite the apparent animosity between them, it seems to me that Richards has a lot of respect for Villeneuve. We've also heard Button say that he'd prefer to work with Jacques next year. If he's not driving for BAR, I would dearly love to see him in CART. I don't think he ever really adjusted to the current F1 regulations of twitchy, feather-light grooved-tyred cars. CART cars, though, should still suit his old, agressive, style of driving. Bit like Montoya. F1 doesn't suit these guys. |

Hope he goes to another F1 team. I think he is very underrated, just needs a good car under him...

I hope that he either gets a competetive F1 seat or if that fails he comes back to CART.
Would make me watch CART a whole lot more than now. Maybe even ditch F1...... |

CART i think no other seats in F1 is available and teams like JAG and JORDON are looking for pay drivers!

I think Jacques will head off into the sunset. Maybe a sabbatical rather than outright retirement, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the sidelines for 2004.

Man I hope JV gets into a decent car again because you'll never hear the end of it from me man. Your treatment of JV fans on the forum is pathetic to say the least, but hey your a moderator so it's all good I guess Last edited by TeddyG; 1 Oct 2003 at 07:42. |

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed. |

He'll just retire. It's F1 or nothing.
