Le Mans-- race updates , news , comments

Big Moment for the N0 21 car Ascari Judd , It looked a rear suspension faliure or something at Indianapolis corner ?, but he didnt scrub that much speed off before he hit the tyres head on. I think Lupberger was in the car , which is a shame for Townsend Bell and Ben Collins if their race is over so early . Still , at least Lupberger is ok .

Yes , looks like he may be on one already , i think Pescartori may have a fair wait to get a stint once Johnny and Rinaldo have their first runs .

Sato san: why is Townsend Bell mentioned in your post about the Ascari? He has never raced at Le Mans!

Townsend Bell will be driving the Ascari if it can be repaired. Apparantly the team haven't given up hope!!!

Also the first pit stops came quite early according to Eurosport, anyone know why?

How the hell can it be Townsend Bell, when he is racing at Portland in the CART race?

The driver in the Ascari is TJ Bell.

Thanks Hakk , just checking out his site now .

Johnny's finally got out of the car , after 3 hours . He said the car was easy to drive . Looks good at this very early stage for Audi .

Just read that the Audi's are stopping every 13 laps whereas the MGs are stopping every 15 laps!!

Should be more of an advantage as the race progresses!

gah, speed coverage is crapy

why do they spend more time in the pits than on the track? then the endless loops of the same commercials. and why are tehy showing highlights of previous lemans with one going on live now?

Speed coverage is better than no coverage,I only have Terrestrial TV and there's no coverage there I have to make do with Radio Le Mans and buy the review tape.
I saw 4car at Le mans on channel 4 and counted on them covering some of the race.

I couldn't agree with your more. I wish the real Speedvision were still there. AND, this business about only partial coverage is nuts! I want the full 24!!

The "No" Goh Audi is having right side radiator (?) problems, #11 Panoz having cooling problems, Ferrari 550 is leading GTS, #80 Freisinger is leading GT.
I think Speedchannel is showing too much of the pit stops and not enpugh of the on-track action.
RFH Dome has just moved back into the top 5.

Not being an expert on the sportscar scene, I'd like to ask the following question: Why is Bentley so far off the pace this year compared to last? Last year was their comeback year (I think), and they were great then.

Thanks for the information, Hakkiman, I too thought it seemed strange with "T.Bell", thinking it might be Townsend! Lupberger's crash was very scary - head on into the tyre barrier at very high speed. Glad to see that he's OK.

I believe it just moved up to 5th. I think that the Audi's are so fast it just makes everybody else look bad.

And yes Paul, it seems like all of the cars have had at least one puncture! Luc Alphand Porsche I think has had 2 so far...

RFH Dome having some gearbox work being done.

Yes, you're right, they're 5th now. They must have moved up at least a couple of places during the last 40 minutes or so, because they were not in the top 6 when Eurosport's coverage was on. They were as far down as 12th earlier. Not that much off last year's great 3rd place then - still a chance!

That's disaster for them, as they were in the top 6 previously, and are now languishing down in 12th place.
