Mario Haberfeld the Brit!!!!

Seems Mario Haberfeld has changed his nationality. He has become a British driver.

Very weird for the GB flag flown over the pdoium.

Yea, I did. It makes up for Brazil to watch a race LIVE with him on the podium.

Yea. They had the British one, instead of the Brazilian one.

A lot of drivers race under different countries from their own nationalities.
Antonio Pizzonia for example was granted his international racing licence in Britain, hence the British national anthem when he won a race last year.
Rob Nguyen's racing licence was granted in Switzerland.
Perhaps Mario also has a British licence?

it is mad isnt it . Because it says BR by his name , maybe they confused it with GB ??

poor old Mario , he gets on the podium and the pictures will all look stupid now.

Mario races in F-3000 with a British license.

Mario got very upset for having the British flag flying on his behalf - I read several interviews in the Brazilian press when he clearly expressed his upset.

Actually he even went too far on his words - he got quite emotional when interviewed by the "O Estado de Sao Paulo" newspaper, and said that "I don't even like England, it is a cold and boring place". I am sure that was the heat of the moment only, though.

Haberfeld is a driver that puzzles me. He excelled on the British F3 Championship, then moved for F-3000 and for three years he did all sorts of silly mistakes - and had his fare of bad luck too. I had lost my expectations on him. Hopefully he is now back to his former self.

I just managed to catch the end of the opening F3k race on ITV1 and Mario had the GB flag for him there as well. Maybe he is representing Britain afterall.

As I said before, he has a British licence - it is not uncommon, especially as many drivers won't have raced anything other than karts before they move to one of the British junior series.

They could start racing in the UK with a national licence from their own country, but if their only single seater racing had come in the UK racing Formula Fords (for example) they are going to find it much easier to get their International licence in the UK than by going back to Brazil (or any other country), as they would have to complete four single seater races there to be eligible.

There are dozens of other examples.

Find out if the team are doing any private testing in the UK (I don't think they are allowed to use Silverstone, but teams often test at other circuits - SuperNova and Petrobras have used Snetterton a lot and European Minardi have tested at Donington) and go along.

He could well end up top 3 in points as his only 'bad' weekend was Imola where qual was in the rain.
