Ebimotors to be Porsche works team?

Just read on lmsr.net that Ebimotors will become Porsche's works team in FIA GT 2006.

What will happen to GruppeM then?

Neither of these stories 'should' be true, seeing as how there are not supposed to be any works/factory teams in GT2 next year.

Ebimotors had factory support in the Italian championship this year, but not in FIA, so maybe its going to be that all Porsche privateer teams will be getting the same level of support that GruppeM and Friesinger before them have had.

In terms of speed they've been the best of the other Porsche teams (usually third fastest Porsche in qualifying behind the GruppeM cars) in FIAGT. If true, could this decision have more to do with Porsche's plans for 2007 than 2006, when the Spyder arrives in Europe?

I don't believe that any of the Porsche GT teams from the recent past can be called "works" or "factory" teams per say. Some teams just receive more help/support in regards to tech, information, personal and drivers. Other teams are on their own. "Factory supported" would be a better way to describe teams like GroupeM, Alex Job and PWL.

Presumably this is part of the broadening of works support that we've seen in the ALMS, where AJR used to be exclusively factory-backed but other teams now receive backing from Weissach. So Ebimotors and GruppeM to get support from Porsche would make sense.

I wonder if this also means they will get a new truck to replace the old one they used this season

in the press-release Ebimotor said that the car will be upgraded with new engines and setups developed by Porsche... IMHO they will be at the level of GruppeM...

They will use their Italian GT GT3-RSR I assume then? As I don't see them up to GruppeM level if they continue with the RS they drove this season.

i think that the GT3-RS we have seen in FIA-GT is a a RS just because of the shape of the lights, probably it has an RSR engine

It's a RS tub, so it has at least some small disadvantages over the RSR.
