1906 Le Mans Circuit
I'm trying to find out the exact route of the 1906 Le Mans circuit so that I can drive as much as possible of it. I have a map, a highlighter and the general route.
It is the detail I am missing. Specifically what did it do in the following towns, Ardenay St-Calais Vibraye (I know the how it bypasses this, but can't be sure how it rejoins the D1) La Ferte-Bernard (I think I know how it exits the town. I'm not sure how it enters the town, which may be confused by the new junction for the A11) Also, does anyone know exactly where the start was? The online resources I've found so far are: http://theracingline.net/racingcircu.../LeMans06.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1906_French_Grand_Prix http://www.silhouet.com/motorsport/tracks/connere.html http://www.sportscardigest.com/first...ch-grand-prix/ http://racingmemo.free.fr/M%20CIRCUI...NCE/LEMANS.htm http://www.les24heures.fr/index.php/...-prix-acf-1906 Last edited by Adam43; 5 Jun 2013 at 20:47. |

Ah! There's your startline then Adam.....
Several footbridges were erected over the track, and a 2,000-seat canopied grandstand was built at the start and finish line at Montfort.... |

That probably puts it near St-Mars-la-Briere? I would like to narrow it down to quite close

Here is a stab at the closest possible on modern roads - unless they have left those wooden tracks used back in the day! https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr...,9,10&t=m&z=11 It's not that good a route in google maps. For instance the road is a dead end in Ardenay, there are restrictions on route and it hints there is no left turn to bypass Vibraye, but you have to turn round, come back the otherway and turn right. |

That's pretty darn close, I'd say, 107 years on!

I've moved the start to the D323 near your marker. By a road called "double-six"
