Now this I haven't seen before...

Hope this is the right place... this apparently is the Bulgarian Touring Car Championship... looks like they held a race on a motorway junction...

Certainly an interesting variety of machinery, and great safety measures (not). Anyone know anything else about this championship, like where else they race? Just a curiosity really...

I think this is a rally stage rather than a TCC?

In Palanga, Lithuania there's a 1000km (or actually 1003km because tv channel 3 spnsors race) touring car (and sports car) race on a motorway track.

Track:

There's a one-make cup for Lada Revolution in Russia.

I see they also had some ST cars racing in the series, at least back in '03. I noticed there was an old BMW and Dodge Stratus racing in the series?

Hey, credit where credit is due, at least they race touring cars over proper distances..

(remembering fondly the first time that we had a World Touring Car Championship, 1987, when we had 500km races instead of 20 minute sprints)..

But for some reason, I don't see the series as being acknowledged in the "official"(debateable?) Touring car Worldwide annuals? Does anyone know if the cars are owner/driver like Formula Saloons or pro teams where the owners actually hired pro drivers?

Please consider yourself lucky that you were born in a motorsport civilized country. Believe me watching a race in my country for example can be a nasty experience if you know a thing or two about the correct safety practices that have to be followed.

Imagine for example the marshalls being totaly unprotected by barriers and having the nerve to take their car with them, people and car in pretty dangerous place (a run off area essentially) for hours. Megara Circuit, Athens, Greece, 2005.

Look closer at the picture.
- There's a line across the tarmac under the front wheels of the Audi.
- There's tyre smoke from the Peugeot at the back
- There's a timing beam next to the guy standing on the right.

It's not parc ferme, it's the starting grid

Wait, I thought the WRC has been doing that for years, little or no spectator barriers? While obviously dangerous, the fans can't get any closer to the cars. Sometimes, they can cause accidents or help drivers to recover after an accident?

Mate, curcuit racing is supposed to be better for the safety of both competitors and spectators. Well. in some countries at least.

Valker, I can not beat your pics However on the last Megara race a car from our one make MG cup left the track and demolished an unprotected by bariers light building. Minutes ago the race meeting stewarts had finished their meeting inside that building...

it is rather dangerous . but i don't know what i would chose .. no racing or this kind of racing . it aint exactly England .. there's no tradition of marshalling .. no close circuits .. no nothing ..

Just looking at this set of images... it appears that the guy who came off the platform may have been hit by the Porsche. Was everyone OK after this incident ? It looks absolutely horrific.
