There seem to be rumours floating around that Adelaide has lost its round of the ALMS. While this solves my dilemma of where to go that weekend, it doesn't sound good. There is still a possibility of a race in Perth but at this point in time I don't know.

I hope the race stays in Adelaide, and then a second race in Perth...now, where did I put all my savings?

I havent heard a thing about this as yet..and I certainly hope not..I think Adelaide was a huge success...and with better TV could get even better..it would be a shame to see it lose its round..and i dont know anything about a Perth race either..????

I really must take off my blinkers and get amoungst all the gossip !!!

Seems it is John Olsen's (SA Premier) fault. He cancelled the race, not Don Panoz who had in fact been in Adelaide only a few days before organising this year's event.

To put it mildy, that sucks. Sports cars on the way up again with the ALMS and the Adelaide race could only get bigger and better so there should have been no need to cancel the race.

According to the RacingLines article it became a money issue as most things do. I had no idea that the Aussie public was paying so much for the race, approx. $8 million in AUS dollars. Apparently outside pressure has been exerted on the public offices deciding these matters and have had the race squashed.

The ticket sales were said to be over 140,000 in attendance making the event by the largest ALMS event held to date. Surely the economic impact of the race produced far more than $8 million in local revenue? If every person attending spent on average $20.00, not diffcult to believe considering event prices for food and beverage, that produced $2.8 miilion alone.
